7 weeks with no ESD payment after June application - need governor's office contact

I'm at my wits end with ESD! Applied for unemployment back in June (over 2 months ago) and I've been stuck in pending status for SEVEN WEEKS with zero payments. My rent is already late and my landlord is threatening eviction. I've called ESD at least 30 times, sent 12 messages through eServices, and NOTHING! I can't get through to an actual person. Someone told me I should contact the governor's office directly about this mess. Does anyone have that number or know how to reach them? Has anyone successfully gotten help from them with ESD issues? I'm desperate at this point.

The Governor's Office can be reached at 360-902-4111, but honestly they'll probably just refer you back to ESD. What you need is to speak with an actual ESD agent who can see your claim details. What's your claim status showing in eServices - is it in adjudication or just pending?

It says "adjudication in progress" but doesn't say what the issue is! That's what's driving me crazy. I had a small gap in employment earlier this year (2 weeks) before my most recent job, but I reported everything honestly. Could that be causing this?

The governor's office won't be able to help directly with your claim. Your issue sounds like a standard adjudication delay, which is unfortunately common, especially if there's anything unusual in your work history or separation reason. Here's what I'd recommend: 1. Continue filing your weekly claims on time even with no payment 2. Check if there are any "Upload Document" requests in your eServices account 3. Look for any correspondence in your eServices Notices/Letters section 4. Try calling right when they open at 8:00 AM (not 8:01, but exactly 8:00) 5. If you've been waiting 7+ weeks, contact your state representative (find them at leg.wa.gov) Even if you can't reach ESD, keep detailed records of all your attempts to contact them - dates, times, and methods. You'll need this if you request a hardship escalation.

Thank you for the detailed advice. I've been doing #1-3 religiously. I'll try calling at exactly 8:00 tomorrow. I hadn't thought about contacting my state rep - will definitely try that too! And yes, I've been keeping a log of all my contact attempts.

It's the worst feeling, right? Like you're completely powerless. Did anything finally break the logjam for you? I don't have family I can borrow from so I'm getting seriously worried.

I was in the EXACT SAME SITUATION last month!!! Applied in May, got stuck in adjudication until mid-July with ZERO communication from ESD. It's absolutely CRIMINAL how they treat people who are already struggling financially. They expect us to meet all these deadlines but then can make us wait MONTHS with no income??? I tried the governor's office route too but just got bounced around to voicemails. The whole system is designed to make people give up.

It sucks but what can you expect from a government agency? They don't care about us. I never even got my last 3 weeks of benefits and just gave up fighting them.

Have you tried using Claimyr? It helped me get through to ESD when I was in adjudication for 5 weeks. The regular phone number is basically useless, but Claimyr got me connected to an agent in about 30 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Their website is claimyr.com. The agent I spoke with was able to see exactly what was holding up my claim and escalated it for me. I got paid the following week.

I've never heard of Claimyr before. Does it really work? At this point I'll try anything that might help me talk to an actual person at ESD.

Yes, it worked for me and a friend who recommended it. It's not magic - you still might wait a bit, but it's way better than the regular ESD number where you just get disconnected. The agent I spoke with actually looked at my file and found the issue.

Since you mentioned a 2-week gap in employment, that's likely the issue. ESD has to verify all employment gaps to ensure you weren't working unreported during that time. It's frustrating, but it's standard procedure. While continuing to try to reach ESD directly, you should prepare the following documents to help speed up your case when you do connect with someone: 1. Pay stubs or documentation from the job before the gap 2. Pay stubs from the job after the gap 3. Any documentation showing why there was a gap (job search records, etc.) 4. A written statement explaining the employment gap Having these ready can help resolve the adjudication much faster once you reach someone.

This is super helpful! I didn't realize the 2-week gap would trigger all this, but it makes sense. I have all those documents and will write up a statement tonight. Now I just need to actually reach someone...

Have u tried going 2 a WorkSource office in person? sometimes they can help or at least give u better info than the websites

WorkSource staff usually can't directly help with claim issues - they're separate from ESD claims agents. But they might be able to help OP get their state legislator contact info, which can sometimes help with escalation. Worth a try when nothing else is working!

Since your claim is already in adjudication, here's the process that's happening: an adjudicator is assigned to review your specific issue (likely the employment gap you mentioned). The standard timeframe for adjudication in 2025 is 4-6 weeks, but they're currently running behind due to staffing shortages. If you do reach an agent through any method, ask specifically for a "hardship escalation" if you're facing eviction. This can prioritize your claim if you're at risk of losing housing. You'll need to explain your financial hardship situation. Keep in mind that if your claim is approved, you'll receive all back payments for any eligible weeks you've claimed - so don't stop filing your weekly claims regardless of the delay.

Thank you - I didn't know about hardship escalation! I definitely qualify since I'm facing eviction. I'll specifically ask for that when I finally reach someone. And yes, I've been filing every single week without fail, even with no payments coming through.

The governer won't help you. There all the same they jus pass u around until u give up. I spent 11 weeks waiting last year and had to take a crappy job just to avoid being homeless.

While I understand your frustration, contacting your state representative (not necessarily the Governor) can actually help in many cases. Representatives often have dedicated staff who handle constituent services and can sometimes cut through red tape faster than individuals can on their own. It doesn't work 100% of the time, but it's worth trying as one option among several when you're stuck in a long adjudication.

Update from someone who went through this recently: I waited 8 weeks in adjudication earlier this year. What finally worked was emailing my state senator AND representative (found their contact info on leg.wa.gov). I clearly explained my situation, how long I'd been waiting, and that I was facing financial hardship. Their office contacted ESD directly, and my claim was resolved within 5 days after that. Don't give up! The system is frustrating but persistence eventually pays off. And as others have mentioned, keep filing those weekly claims - when it finally resolves, you'll get all the back payments at once.

This gives me hope! I'm going to try contacting my representatives today. Just looked them up on leg.wa.gov and found their email addresses. Did you call or email them? And did you provide your ESD claim ID in your message?

I emailed them with the subject line "Urgent Unemployment Assistance Needed - Constituent Request". In the email I included my name, address (to prove I'm in their district), phone number, ESD claim ID, and a brief timeline of events. I kept it under one page but included all the essential details. Good luck!
