Called governor's office about ESD delays - still no movement on my claim
I am at my wit's end with ESD! I called the governor's office on Monday because my claim has been stuck for almost 7 weeks. Someone from unemployment actually called me back Tuesday (shocked!) and said I might get a callback 'by the end of the week' to resolve my issues. Well, it's now Friday evening and SURPRISE - absolutely nothing. No call, no updates on my claim status, nothing has changed in eServices. My landlord is already threatening eviction and I've got about $28 left to my name. Has anyone else tried the governor's office route recently? Did they actually follow through for you? I'm seriously about to lose my apartment and don't know what to do anymore...

I tried governor's office too last month. They told me someone would call within 48 hrs. Took 9 days! But they actually did eventually call and fixed my standby issue. Hang in there

•9 days?? I can't wait that long! Did you keep calling them every day or just wait?

The Governor's Office route can work, but here's what's happening behind the scenes: Your request gets forwarded to the ESD Constituent Services team, not regular claims agents. They triage based on urgency, and unfortunately, they're backlogged too. When they told you "end of the week," that was their target, but they're juggling hundreds of similar urgent requests. A few suggestions: 1. Call back Monday morning and specifically mention the eviction threat - that should bump you up in priority 2. Ask your landlord for documentation of the eviction warning - this helps prove your hardship case 3. Make sure your phone accepts calls from unknown/blocked numbers (ESD often shows up this way) 4. Check your eServices messages daily - sometimes they respond there first If you've already been waiting 7 weeks, you definitely qualify for escalation. They should be able to at least get someone to review your claim within 2-3 business days.

•Thank you for this detailed explanation! I'll definitely call again Monday. My landlord already gave me a written 14-day notice which I can scan and send if needed. I've been checking eServices like a maniac every few hours but nothing there either. It's so stressful not knowing if I'll get help in time.

THE GOVERNORS OFFICE IS USELESS!!!! I called them 4 TIMES and they just take your info and nothing happens. ESD is a complete joke in 2025, even worse than during covid if you can believe it. They just don't care about people suffering.

•I had a completely different experience. The governor's office helped me get my adjudication resolved within 5 days after I'd been waiting for 2 months. I think it depends on who you talk to and how you explain your situation. If you're facing imminent eviction or utility shutoff, make sure you emphasize that specifically.

Have you tried using Claimyr? I was in a similar situation last month - desperate to reach someone at ESD and getting nowhere. My claim had been pending for 5 weeks and I was about to lose my car. I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually got me through to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes when I'd been trying for weeks on my own. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 I'm not saying the governor's office approach won't work, but if you're facing eviction, you might want to try multiple angles. The ESD agent I finally talked to was able to push my claim through that same day.

•does this really work? sounds too good to be true honestly

•It worked for me and two other people I know. You still talk to the same ESD agents - Claimyr just helps you bypass the busy signals and disconnects. The ESD phone system is completely overwhelmed.

I think there's some confusion about what the governor's office can actually do. They don't process claims or make adjudication decisions - they can only escalate your case within ESD. When you contact them, make sure you have your claim ID ready, the exact dates of your claim issues, and a clear summary of what's happened so far. Tell them specifically what hardship you're facing (eviction, utilities, medical needs, etc). Also, while waiting, make sure you're still filing your weekly claims without interruption, even if they're not being paid. Missing weeks can cause even more delays. If your claim is in adjudication status, specifically ask the governor's office to request an expedited adjudication review based on financial hardship. If it's a different status like "pending" or "processing," ask what specific team needs to review your claim. Hope this helps, and let us know what happens!

•Thank you, this is really helpful. I've definitely been filing my weekly claims religiously even though it feels pointless sometimes. My claim is stuck in adjudication - apparently there's an "employer dispute" but my former employer won't return ESD's calls (according to the one person I managed to speak with). I'll specifically ask for expedited adjudication review on Monday.

•That gives me a little hope! Did anything change in your eServices account before they called you back? I keep checking mine obsessively but the status hasn't changed at all.

•nope nothing changed until after they called me. the status was the same boring "adjudication in progress" thing for weeks until suddenly it changed to paid! the money showed up in my account today actually.

Here's what most people don't know: ESD has an internal policy that hardship cases involving eviction, utility disconnection, or medical emergencies should be prioritized. However, this only happens if you specifically request hardship prioritization and provide documentation. When you call the governor's office again (which you should do Monday morning), tell them: 1. You have a formal eviction notice (and can provide it) 2. You need your case marked for "hardship prioritization" 3. You need them to transfer your request to the "ESD Executive Review Team" These specific phrases can help move your case faster. The standard adjudication time is currently running 6-8 weeks unless specifically expedited. I work with a community resource center and we've helped several people navigate this exact situation. The system is frustrating, but there are ways to move through it more efficiently if you know the right terminology and procedures.

•Thank you so much for these specific tips! I will definitely use these exact phrases when I call on Monday. I never knew about the hardship prioritization option or the Executive Review Team. This gives me a bit more hope. I appreciate everyone's help here.

One more thing to try - if you have a state representative or senator, their constituent services can sometimes be even more effective than the governor's office. They often have direct contacts with ESD leadership. You can find your representatives here: app.leg.wa.gov/districtfinder Send them an email explaining your situation and include your claim ID, contact info, and mention the eviction notice. Sometimes they can get things moving within 24-48 hours. Let us know how it goes!

•I'll definitely try this too! I'm in the 43rd district and just looked up my representatives. I'll email them all this weekend. Thank you for this suggestion - I'm going to try everything possible at this point.
