Adjudication stuck since contacting Governor's office - when will ESD respond?
I'm at my wit's end with ESD! My husband has 5 weekly claims sitting in adjudication - started 9/25, then moved to 10/01, but STILL nothing has happened. Not a single payment has come through and bills are piling up fast. We finally called the Governor's office last week out of desperation (tried calling ESD 20+ times before that). They took our info but we haven't heard anything back. Has anyone else gone the Governor's route? How long should we expect to wait after contacting them? We're getting really worried about making rent next month if this doesn't resolve soon.

We did the same thing back in March. After contacting the Governor's office it still took about 10 days before someone from ESD actually called us. Hang in there!

•10 days!? Ugh that's so frustrating. Did they at least fix your issue when they finally called?

Have you also tried contacting your state representative? I had a 7-week adjudication nightmare in January that the Governor's office couldn't help with, but my rep's constituent services person got it fixed in 4 days. Worth a shot while you're waiting!

•No I haven't tried that! Do you just call their office directly? We're in King County if that matters.

Going through the Governor's office sometimes works, but it's still hit or miss. What was the actual issue that put your husband in adjudication? That plays a big role in how quickly they'll respond. If it's an employer dispute or identity verification, those take way longer than simple availability issues.

•They never told us what the issue is! That's part of why we're so frustrated. His eServices account just shows 'adjudication in progress' with zero details about what they're actually investigating.

im in the EXACT same boat!! been waiting since 9/18 and contacted govs office 2 weeks ago. still NOTHING. this is ridiculous. they expect us to survive with no income while they take there sweet time. if we were late with paperwork wed be penalized but they can make us wait months?? so unfair

•Have you found any other ways to get through to someone? Did the governor's office at least confirm they sent something to ESD about your case?

I've been through this frustrating process twice now, and I've learned that these official channels can take forever. Honestly, the only thing that worked for me was using Claimyr to get through to an actual ESD agent (claimyr.com). They basically get you past the phone system so you can actually talk to someone. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. It cost money but was worth it to finally get answers about my adjudication that had been stuck for weeks.

•It worked for me both times I used it. The first time, the agent couldn't immediately fix my issue but at least told me what was going on and added notes to escalate. The second time they resolved it during the call. But at minimum, you get actual information instead of just staring at 'adjudication in progress' with no explanation.

Based on my experience working with adjudication cases, here's what you should know: 1) Governor's office inquiries are tracked and usually get a response within 7-15 business days, 2) Make sure you're checking your ESD messages daily and answering any questions immediately, 3) The fact that the date moved from 9/25 to 10/01 suggests they're actively working on it but needed additional information, and 4) Multiple claims in adjudication simultaneously often indicates a single issue affecting all claims rather than separate problems. If you haven't already, make sure all job search activities are properly documented in your weekly claims, as this is a common hold-up.

•Thank you! This is so helpful. So the date change is actually a good sign? We've been checking messages religiously and submitted all requested job search info. Hopefully that means we're getting closer to resolution.

When I had adjudication issues last year i just kept calling ESD every single day until I got through. Took almost 2 weeks of trying but I finally got a human who helped. The governer thing is ok but honestly its faster if u just brute force the phone system lol

•We tried calling every day for 3 weeks before contacting the governor! Most days we couldn't even get in the queue - just got the message about high call volume and to try again later. The few times we did get in queue, we were on hold for 2+ hours and then got disconnected. It's maddening.

UPDATE: Based on what you've shared, I'd definitely recommend also emailing the Office of the Unemployment Insurance Ombuds. They're separate from regular ESD and specifically help people stuck in situations like yours. Search for "Washington UI Ombuds" - they have a form to fill out. I've seen them help with cases where adjudication dragged on too long.

•Thank you! Just looked them up and submitted a request through their form. Fingers crossed one of these approaches works soon.

One more thing I should have mentioned - if your husband has former employer(s) involved in the adjudication, consider having him reach out to their HR department directly. Sometimes employers don't respond to ESD's inquiries, which leaves claims stuck in limbo. A quick call to HR asking them to respond to ESD can sometimes break the logjam.

•That's a great idea! He was laid off from a construction project, so I'll have him contact the company's HR tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion.
