8 weeks pending in ESD system - sick of waiting, 800 number useless
Been dealing with ESD for over 2 months now and officially at my breaking point! I just filed my 9th weekly claim, and I STILL have 8 weeks showing as pending in the system. Not a single payment has come through yet. I've tried calling the 800-318-6022 number probably 30+ times - either get disconnected immediately or wait on hold for 2+ hours only to get hung up on. How is anyone supposed to survive like this?? Bills are piling up, and I'm about to get my electricity shut off. I found out today that contacting the Governor's office might help, so I'm going to try that first thing tomorrow morning. Has ANYONE had success getting through to ESD lately? Any other options besides the Governor's office? I'm seriously desperate at this point.

The Governor's office is definitely one way to go, but I'd also recommend contacting your state representative. They often have dedicated staff who can escalate ESD claims. When I had 6 weeks pending last year, my rep's office got things moving within 3 days. Find your representative here: leg.wa.gov/legislature/pages/districtfinder.aspx and email BOTH your state rep and senator explaining your situation. Include your claim ID and contact info. Be specific about financial hardship.

•Thank you!! I didn't even think about contacting my rep. I'll definitely do that along with the Governor's office. Did you have to provide any additional documentation to your rep when you contacted them?

That regular 800 number is TRASH!!!!! Been there, done that. Complete waste of time. I was in your exact shoes last month - 7 weeks pending and couldn't get through. Try calling at exactly 7:59am right before they open. sometimes you can get in the queue before everyone else.

•Calling right when they open doesn't work anymore!! They changed the system. I tried that trick for two weeks straight and it always says 'call volume too high' even at 7:59am exactly.

I was in adjudication limbo for almost 3 months before finally getting through to an actual claims specialist who resolved my issue in 10 minutes. The problem is that regular ESD agents can't do much for pending claims - you need a tier 2 specialist or adjudicator. I finally had success using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through. It's a service that connects you with an ESD agent without the wait. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. It was the only thing that worked after dozens of failed call attempts. The key is that once you get through, immediately ask for an escalation to a specialist for pending claims.

•Never heard of this before. Is it legit? Seems weird to use a third-party service just to talk to a government agency I should be able to reach directly. But at this point I'll try literally anything.

•100% legit. I was skeptical too, but I was desperate after weeks of no income. They just help you skip the phone queue. Once you're connected, you're talking directly with actual ESD staff. Make sure to specifically ask for a claims specialist or adjudicator when you get through - regular agents will just tell you to wait.

The same thing happened to me but mine was 10 weeks penidng and it took SO LONG to fix. The reason was that I had an identity verification issue I didn't even know about? Did you check your ESD account online to see if there's anything in the alerts section? Sometimes they need additional verification but they never actually tell you lol the system is broken

•I check my account obsessively - like 5 times a day hoping for a change. No alerts showing up, just says "pending" next to every week. It's so frustrating not knowing WHY it's pending or what I can do to fix it!

Have you checked if you're in adjudication? That's different from just pending. Adjudication means there's a specific issue they're investigating. Look under your "Decision status" tab in your ESD account. If it says adjudication, you need to find out what the issue is - could be employment separation reason, availability for work, job search activities, or ID verification. Each requires different documentation to resolve. The most common reason claims get stuck is that they need more info from you but haven't made it clear what they need.

•Just checked and you're right - it does say "Adjudication in Progress" under one tab I hadn't noticed before. But it doesn't say what the issue is! How am I supposed to fix something when I don't even know what's wrong??

•That's a huge clue! Now we know why you're stuck. Most likely scenarios: 1) They need to verify your reason for job separation with your employer, 2) There's an issue with your ID verification, or 3) There's a question about your availability for work. When you DO get through to ESD, specifically mention you're in adjudication and ask what documentation you can provide to resolve it. Having this info ready will make your call much more productive. Sometimes you can upload documents proactively through your online account under the "Upload a document" section.

•Same! Adjudication is the worst. And they never tell you how long it will take. I waited 6 weeks then suddenly all my payments came through at once with no explanation. The system makes no sense.

Important tip based on your adjudication status: If you're able to get through to ESD, ask specifically for an adjudicator or claims specialist. The regular agents are limited in what they can do for adjudication cases. Also, with 8 weeks pending, you likely qualify for a hardship escalation. Make sure to mention the risk of utilities being shut off - that should get you a 72-hour escalation. Document everything - who you spoke with, date, time, what they promised, etc. You might need this information later if there are more delays.

•Thank you for this! I had no idea about the hardship escalation. I'll definitely mention that when I call. I'm going to try all these suggestions tomorrow - Governor's office, state rep, and trying to get through to ESD again with these specific requests. I'll update here if anything works!
