9 weeks with no ESD response - tried everything including Governor's office
I seriously don't know what else to do at this point. My claim has been sitting in adjudication for 9 WEEKS without any movement. I've called ESD literally 50+ times - either can't get through or get disconnected. Left messages in eServices that no one responds to. Emailed my state rep. Even tried calling the Governor's office yesterday out of desperation and that was another dead end. They just transferred me back to the same ESD number that doesn't work! I have about $7200 in benefits that are just sitting there while my savings are almost gone. My landlord is getting impatient and my car payment is already 15 days late. Has anyone actually managed to get through to a human being at ESD lately? This system is completely broken.

I was in the exact same boat last month with a 7-week adjudication delay. What finally worked for me was using Claimyr to get through to an actual ESD agent. It's this service that basically calls ESD for you and then connects you when they get through. Their site is claimyr.com and you can see how it works in this video: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. The agent I spoke with was actually able to push my claim through that same day once I explained my hardship situation. Might be worth trying since nothing else is working.

•Really? I've never heard of that before. Did you have to pay for it? Seems weird that we need a third-party service just to reach a government agency we pay taxes for...

9 weeks? Pfft, rookie numbers. Try 13 weeks like me! This system is deliberately designed to make people give up. They're hoping we'll just go away so they don't have to pay us what we're owed.

•Not everything is a conspiracy. They're just understaffed and overwhelmed. My cousin works at ESD and says they're drowning in claims with not enough people to process them.

The Governor's office usually doesn't handle individual claims, but there are a few things you can try that might help: 1. Contact your state representative AND state senator (both, not just one) 2. File a formal complaint with the ESD Ombuds Office at 1-866-697-4831 3. Request an expedited hardship review if you're facing eviction - this requires documentation 4. Make sure there's not a simple issue holding up your claim - check your correspondence tab and upload any requested documents Adjudication delays are frustrating, but there's usually a specific reason your claim is stuck. It could be an employer dispute, identity verification, or separation issue that needs to be resolved before benefits can be paid.

•Thank you for these suggestions! I did check my correspondence tab and there's nothing there asking for more info. I'm going to try the Ombuds Office tomorrow. My separation was pretty straightforward (company downsizing with 40 other people) so I don't think my employer is contesting it.

i was stuck in adjudication for almost 11 weeks earlier this year. the thing that finally worked was emailing my state senator AND representative (do both!) and cc'ing the ESD commissioner's office. my senator's office contacted ESD directly on my behalf, and magically my claim was approved 3 days later. don't give up!!!

•Same thing happened to me! My rep was actually super helpful and had a staff person who specializes in ESD issues. Took about a week after contacting them but definitely faster than waiting for ESD to get to me in their queue.

When claims get stuck in adjudication for extended periods, it's typically due to one of several issues: 1. Employer response discrepancies - Your former employer provided information that conflicts with your application 2. Identity verification issues - Something in your identity verification didn't match records 3. Wage investigation - If wages or hours reported don't match employer records 4. Special circumstances requiring manual review - Unusual separation reasons One effective strategy is to request a hardship escalation if you're facing imminent eviction or utility shutoff. You'll need to provide documentation, but it can move your claim up in priority. You can request this by calling the main line and specifically mentioning "financial hardship escalation" or through your state representative's office. If you haven't already, document every contact attempt you've made with dates and times. This can be helpful if you need to escalate further.

•LOL at "calling the main line" - that's the whole problem! Nobody can get through on the phone!

•Thanks for the detailed info. I'm definitely going to try the hardship escalation route since I'm already behind on bills. Is there a specific form for that or do I just need to explain my situation when/if I get through?

•I didn't realize WorkSource could help with this. There's one about 20 minutes from me, so I might try that tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion!

Update on the Claimyr thing since people asked - yes, there is a fee, but considering I was about to miss a mortgage payment, it was worth it to me. The ESD agent I spoke with actually said they're working through a huge backlog right now because they switched computer systems in January and it caused tons of problems. She was able to see exactly why my claim was stuck (needed supervisor review because of my previous standby status) and escalated it right away.

•I used this too last month! Got through in like 20 minutes when I had been trying for weeks on my own. The ESD lady was super nice too, like she was just as frustrated with their phone system as we are.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I'm going to try a few things tomorrow: 1) Visit the WorkSource center in person, 2) Email both my state rep and senator, 3) Call that Ombuds Office, and 4) Try that Claimyr service if those don't work. Will update when/if anything happens. Just really frustrated that we have to jump through all these hoops when we're already stressed about being unemployed.

•Good plan of action. One more tip - when you email your representatives, include your full name, claim ID (if you have it), the date you applied, and specifically mention the financial hardship you're experiencing. Be brief but specific. This helps them prioritize and also gives them the info they need to help you without having to ask for basic details.

Anyone else notice that ESD seems to move faster on claims right after the end of the quarter? My theory is they're trying to clear backlogs before submitting their quarterly performance metrics. Might be worth waiting until early April when the new quarter starts to try contacting them again.

•OMG you might be onto something there! My claim was stuck forever but mysteriously approved on January 3rd. Never thought about the quarterly report angle!

Just wanted to chime in as someone who went through this nightmare last year. I was stuck in adjudication for 8 weeks and tried everything - calling, messaging through eServices, contacting my rep. What finally broke it loose was filing a formal complaint with the Washington State Auditor's office about ESD's lack of responsiveness. Within 48 hours of filing that complaint, I got a call from an ESD supervisor who resolved my claim that same day. The auditor's office takes these complaints seriously because ESD is supposed to meet certain performance standards. You can file online at their whistleblower portal. Might be worth adding to your list of things to try!
