Hitting week 6 of adjudication - called Governor's office and got surprising ESD insights
So I'm sitting at week 6 of my unemployment claim being stuck in adjudication and I'm honestly at my wit's end. Filed on January 12, 2025 and it went into adjudication status around January 28th. I've tried calling ESD countless times but keep getting the dreaded 'high call volume' message before getting disconnected. Out of pure desperation yesterday, I called the Governor's office (didn't even know this was an option until I read about it on Reddit). Spoke with an incredibly helpful woman who shared some interesting info I thought might help others here: 1. She said they can now expedite claims after you've completed four weekly certifications 2. When the Governor's office puts in an expedite request, most claims get reviewed within 5-7 days 3. Get this - almost EVERY claim is going to adjudication now regardless of circumstances because of some data breach that happened back in 2023 4. Current wait times are running way beyond the 'standard' 6 weeks because they're severely understaffed The Governor's office rep actually told me way more than I ever got from calling ESD directly. She submitted my expedite request and told me to call back if I don't hear anything by next Friday. I'll update this thread when I get results. This forum has been a lifesaver for me the past month so wanted to share something potentially helpful!

This is EXACTLY what happened to me in November. My claim sat in adjudication for 8 weeks before I finally got approved. I wish I'd known about contacting the Governor's office - that's actually really smart. From what I understand, after that massive data breach, ESD completely overhauled their fraud detection system, and now it flags practically everything. One thing to keep in mind - once they do review your claim, they'll likely call you for a phone interview. Make sure your phone number is correct in the system and that you answer ALL calls, even from unknown numbers. I missed my first adjudicator call and it delayed everything by another two weeks. Are you maintaining your job search requirements while you wait? You absolutely should be doing your 3 activities weekly and documenting them, even while in adjudication.

•Thank you so much for this info! Yes, I've been religiously doing my 3 job search activities every week. I've actually already had two interviews from them, so I guess that's one silver lining. Good tip about the phone calls - I've been letting unknown numbers go to voicemail lately because of all the spam calls. Going to start answering everything now. Did they give you any notice the adjudicator would be calling, or did they just call out of the blue?

•I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. What was their reason for denial after 9 weeks? I went through an appeal last year and won, so if you need any pointers let me know.

Thanks for sharing this information about contacting the Governor's office. This is actually accurate based on my experience working with unemployment claims (I'm a former employment counselor). What's happening with the extended adjudication periods is a combination of three factors: 1. The 2023 data breach led to implementation of much stricter verification protocols 2. ESD lost approximately 35% of their adjudication staff since 2022 3. Their updated claims system (implemented in August 2024) has experienced significant technical issues For anyone else reading this who's stuck in adjudication for 4+ weeks, contacting the Governor's office is indeed one of the most effective escalation paths. The other option is to request help through your state representative's office - they often have dedicated contacts at ESD who can check on claim status. Regarding the expedited review after four weekly certifications, this is a relatively new policy that went into effect in December 2024. It's designed to prioritize claims that demonstrate ongoing filing consistency. Keep documenting everything and maintaining your job search requirements. The new system is frustrating, but there are processes in place to eventually get resolution.

•Yes, you can call the main Governor's office number. When you call, explain that your unemployment claim has been in adjudication for X weeks, that you've been unable to reach ESD directly, and ask if they can submit an expedite request. Have your claim ID number ready. I'd also recommend having documentation of your attempts to contact ESD directly. Note the dates/times you've called or messaged through eServices.

I tried calling the Governor's office after seeing your post and got through to someone right away! The lady I spoke with was really helpful and confirmed everything you mentioned. She put in an expedite request for my claim (going on week 7 of adjudication) and said I should hear something within a week. Have you gotten any updates yet? I'm so anxious about this whole process. One thing I found out that might help others - if you have any missing documents or information they need, your claim can get stuck in adjudication indefinitely without anyone actually contacting you about it. The Governor's office rep checked and said there was a document request in my file from 3 weeks ago that I never received notification about! So now I know what I need to upload.

•So glad it worked for you too! I actually just got a call from an adjudicator yesterday (just 4 days after the Governor's office put in the request). They had a few questions about my last employer and wanted clarification on my separation reason. The call only took about 10 minutes, and they said I should have a decision within 48 hours. That's really important about the missing documents - I had no idea they might not notify you! Did they tell you how to check if there are outstanding document requests on your claim?

Hey there, I've been dealing with the ESD system for years now (unfortunately had to file claims three separate times) and wanted to share something that might save you some headache. If you're tired of waiting on hold or getting disconnected when calling ESD, there's a service called Claimyr that can help. I was skeptical at first, but I used it last month when my claim got stuck in adjudication and it actually worked. They basically hold your place in line and call you back when an ESD agent is available. Check out their site at claimyr.com - they have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 I know how frustrating it is to be stuck in adjudication with bills piling up. The Governor's office route is definitely good too, but if you need to actually speak with ESD directly, this might help.

•Thank you for this recommendation! I hadn't heard of this service before. I'm going to check out that video. Even with the Governor's office helping, I still have questions that only ESD can answer about my specific claim details.

Just wanted to follow up - did you end up getting your claim resolved? I'm curious if the Governor's office expedite actually worked. Several people in my job search group are stuck in adjudication right now and I'd love to give them some hope.

•Yes! Good news - my claim was approved yesterday, exactly 8 days after the Governor's office put in the expedite request. I got a call from an adjudicator last Thursday who asked a few questions about my separation from my last job, and then yesterday I got the approval notice and all my back payments are now pending in my account. So the Governor's office route definitely worked for me! Tell your friends to give it a try if they've completed at least 4 weekly certifications.

•You are indeed one of the lucky ones! Claims with long-term employment at a single employer with a clear layoff reason tend to have fewer flags in the system. It's claims with multiple employers in the base year, quits, or employer disputes that typically get flagged for adjudication under the new system.

I just wanted to thank you for posting this. I called the Governor's office this morning after reading your post (I'm on week 5 of adjudication), and they were super helpful. The person I spoke with took all my info and submitted an expedite request for me. She also explained that my specific issue was related to wage verification because I had worked in both Washington and Oregon during my base year. I've been so stressed about this, and it's the first time I've felt like I've made any progress. I'll update when I hear something. Thanks again!

•I'm so happy this helped you! The multi-state wage verification can definitely complicate things. When I spoke with the adjudicator, they mentioned those kinds of claims often take longer because they have to coordinate with other states. Fingers crossed you hear something soon!
