Called Governor Inslee's office - got ESD to assign adjudicator within 30 mins!
Holy crap, I think I just found the secret to breaking through ESD's wall of silence! My claim has been stuck in adjudication for nearly 7 weeks (filed in February 2025) with ZERO movement. I was getting desperate since rent is due next week and I've got about $217 left in my account. After trying literally everything - calling the main number 30+ times daily, sending messages through eServices that disappeared into the void, and even begging my former employer to contact them - I was at my wit's end. Someone in another thread mentioned contacting the Governor's office as a last resort. I figured I had nothing to lose, so I called Governor Inslee's office around 9:20am today. The woman who answered was INCREDIBLY helpful and took down all my info. She said she'd forward it to their ESD liaison but warned it might take a few days. Guess what? Within 30 MINUTES, I got a call from someone at ESD telling me they were assigning an adjudicator to my case immediately and that things should "move quickly now." I'm honestly in shock. After nearly two months of radio silence, one call to the Governor's office got the wheels turning in half an hour. If anyone else is stuck in adjudication hell, DEFINITELY try the Governor's office. I'll update this post when/if my claim actually gets resolved to let you know if they follow through!

This is actually pretty common knowledge among those of us who've been through the ESD system multiple times. The Governor's office has a direct line to ESD leadership that can expedite claims that are stuck in the system. I've personally used this approach twice - once in 2022 and again last year - with similar results both times. However, it's important to note that this doesn't mean your claim will automatically be approved. The adjudicator still has to review your case according to the same eligibility criteria. What this does is simply move your claim from the back of the queue to active review status. Make sure you have all your documentation ready because once an adjudicator is assigned, things can move very quickly. If they need additional information and can't reach you, it could further delay the process.

•That's so good to know! I actually just got an email from the adjudicator asking for my final paystub from my employer. Scrambling to find it now... Do you know how long it typically takes after they start reviewing everything? I'm just trying to figure out if I need to borrow money for rent or if there's a chance this might resolve in time.

NICE!!! I'm on week 5 of adjudication and I'm calling the Governor TOMORROW MORNING!! Did you call the main office in Olympia or is there a special number? And did you have to provide them with your claim ID number or anything like that? I tried contacting my state rep last week and their office hasn't even gotten back to me yet 🙄

•I just called the main constituent services line for the Governor's office - (360) 902-4111. The woman asked for my full name, contact info, and claim ID (definitely have that ready). She was super nice and didn't make me feel like I was bothering them or anything. Way better experience than calling ESD directly!

I work with clients navigating the unemployment system, and while calling the Governor's office can work, it's generally best used as a last resort after exhausting standard channels. Here's what I typically recommend for claims stuck in adjudication: 1. First, make sure you've responded to all requests for information in eServices 2. Try calling ESD directly during non-peak hours (early morning Tuesday-Thursday) 3. Check if your state representative's office can help before going to the Governor 4. If you've tried all those steps without success for 3+ weeks, then yes, the Governor's office can be appropriate The reason I suggest this approach is that the Governor's office intervention system is meant for cases that are truly stuck, and overloading it can reduce its effectiveness for everyone. That said, I'm glad it worked for you! In your case, 7 weeks is definitely excessive, and you were right to escalate.

•lol love when "experts" tell people not to use the only thing that actually works. if ESD wasn't so completely dysfunctional maybe we wouldn't need to call the governor!!! been trying to get through on the phone for NINE WEEKS and never once got a human being. system is broken.

I tried calling the regular ESD number 50+ times over three days and literally couldn't get through because of "high call volume." If you're in the same boat, I found this service called Claimyr that gets you connected to an ESD agent by phone. Worked for me last month when I was desperate - check out their demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 or go to claimyr.com. They basically keep dialing for you until they get through, then connect you. Was worth it for me since I was at my wit's end, but sounds like the Governor's office might be an even better option!

•Has anyone actually used this service? I'm a little skeptical about giving my info to a third party. Does it actually work or is it just another way to waste money when you're already broke from not getting your unemployment?

•I used it back in January when my claim got stuck and it did work - got me through to an actual person at ESD. But honestly if calling the Governor is free and works just as well, probably better to try that first.

This worked for me too!!! Called Governor's office on Tuesday, got a call from ESD Wednesday morning, and my benefits were in my account by Friday! After being stuck for over a month with no movement. The system is SO BROKEN that we have to go to these lengths just to get what we're entitled to. But word of caution - make sure your claim doesn't have any actual issues that need resolving. This trick just gets someone to look at your claim, it doesn't guarantee approval. If you have legitimate issues (like missing work search activities or quit your job), they'll still deny you.

•That's amazing! Friday would be incredible timing for me. Did they call you with questions first or just process everything? My claim is pretty straightforward - laid off due to department elimination and I've done all my work search activities religiously. Just worried they'll find some technical reason to deny me.

•I'm sorry to hear about your experience. If you've already tried the Governor's office without success, you might want to consider contacting the Office of the Washington State Unemployment Insurance Ombuds at unemployment.ombuds@esd.wa.gov. The Ombuds office was specifically created to help resolve particularly difficult claim situations. Include your name, contact information, and claim ID in your email, along with a brief timeline of your attempts to resolve the issue so far.

Congrats on getting movement! I remember when my claim was stuck last year I was literally losing sleep every night. One thing to keep in mind - sometimes they'll say they're assigning an adjudicator but then nothing happens for another week. In my case, I had to do a follow-up call to the Governor's office after about 8 days of silence. The second call is what finally got things moving. Just sharing in case anyone else tries this method and doesn't get immediate results like you did.

•Thanks for the heads up! I'm marking my calendar for one week from today. If I don't see movement by then, I'll definitely follow up. The ESD person who called me seemed pretty confident things would move quickly, but I've learned not to trust anything when it comes to unemployment processing timelines...
