PFML mistake: Claimed I didn't want payment but do - how to fix?
I'm stressing out over a mistake I made on my Paid Family Medical Leave claim. Last week when I filed, I accidentally selected that I DIDN'T want to get paid for the week, but I definitely do need that payment! I've looked everywhere on the PFML portal but can't find any option to edit a submitted weekly claim. Has anyone dealt with this before? Do I need to call them directly? And if so, what number actually works? I've tried the main PFML number twice already but got disconnected after waiting 45+ minutes each time. Really need this money for bills coming up next week!

•Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. Did they eventually fix it for you? How long did it take to get the payment after you talked to someone?

The Washington PFML system doesn't allow editing of weekly certifications once they're submitted (unlike regular UI). You'll need to call the PFML customer service at 833-717-2273. Be prepared to wait - their call volume is extremely high right now due to the recent system updates. I recommend calling right when they open at 8:00 AM to minimize wait time. They can manually adjust your claim week to indicate you wanted payment.

•Thank you! I'll try calling right at 8 AM tomorrow. Do you know if this will delay my payment by a lot? I'm getting worried about making rent.

•I tried calling at 8 AM and still waited for 75 minutes! The PFML phone system is a nightmare these days. After they "upgraded" their software in January it's been chaos.

•Once they make the correction, the payment should process in the next payment cycle, which is typically 2-3 business days. However, during high volume periods it might take up to 5 business days. Make sure to mention if you're experiencing financial hardship, as they sometimes can expedite in those cases.

just wait till next week and claim that one correctly. not worth the hassle imo

•I really need this week's payment though - it's a significant amount of money for me right now. Can't afford to just skip it unfortunately.

•This is bad advice. OP needs to get this fixed! PFML doesn't let you go back and claim old weeks later like regular unemployment sometimes does. Once the week closes out, that money is potentially lost unless you get them to correct it.

I had this EXACT issue in February! The PFML phone lines are completely swamped, I spent DAYS trying to get through, kept getting disconnected after long waits, and almost gave up! Then I found this service called Claimyr that got me connected to an agent in less than 20 minutes. They basically hold your place in line and call you when an agent is available. Saved me a ton of frustration - here's their site: claimyr.com - they have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. The agent I talked to fixed my mistake right on the call and I got paid in the next payment cycle.

•Thank you for this! I'm going to check it out right now. At this point I'd try anything to avoid more disconnected calls.

•I'll second this recommendation. I used Claimyr for a different PFML issue (they had my bank info wrong), and it worked exactly as described. The service connected me to an agent who fixed my issue right away. Much better than the endless redial cycle I was stuck in before.

Just to clarify for everyone - PFML and regular unemployment (ESD) are different systems with different rules. For PFML, once you submit a weekly certification, it cannot be edited through the online portal. You must call the PFML customer care team to request a correction. A few important points: 1. Be very specific about which week needs correction 2. Have your claim ID ready when you call 3. If the agent says they'll "escalate" it, ask for a ticket/reference number 4. Follow up if you don't see the correction within 5 business days Also, remember that PFML has different eligibility requirements than regular unemployment, so make sure you're still meeting all the criteria for receiving payment for that week.

•Thanks for the detailed info! I definitely have my claim ID ready, and I'll make sure to ask for a reference number if they need to escalate it. I'm eligible for the week - just clicked the wrong option by mistake.

Update: I just wanted to let everyone know that I was able to get this resolved! I ended up using that Claimyr service, got connected to a PFML agent in about 15 minutes, and they fixed the issue right on the call. The agent told me that this happens fairly often and was a simple fix on their end. My payment should arrive in 3-5 business days. What a relief!

I'm dealing with a similar situation right now! Made the same mistake on my weekly certification and have been dreading the phone call nightmare. After reading through all these responses, I think I'm going to try the Claimyr service that Brady mentioned - seems like multiple people have had success with it. It's frustrating that there's no way to edit these things once submitted, but at least there's a solution. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, this thread has been really helpful!

•I'm glad this thread helped you too! I was feeling so panicked when I first made this mistake, but it's reassuring to know it's actually pretty common and fixable. Definitely try the Claimyr service - from what everyone's saying, it seems way better than sitting on hold for hours. Good luck getting yours sorted out! Let us know how it goes.

This is such a helpful thread! I'm actually dealing with a PFML claim right now (though thankfully haven't made this mistake yet) and I had no idea you couldn't edit weekly certifications once submitted. That seems like such a basic feature that should be available - especially when people are stressed and dealing with financial pressure. I'm bookmarking this conversation in case I ever need it. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences and solutions, especially the Claimyr recommendation. It's great to see the community helping each other navigate these confusing systems!

•Absolutely agree! It's such a relief to find a thread like this when you're dealing with these systems for the first time. The lack of an edit button really is a major oversight - especially when people are already stressed about finances and health issues. I'm bookmarking this too just in case. It's amazing how helpful this community is - between the detailed advice from Daniel and Molly, and the real success stories with Claimyr, this thread is like a complete guide for fixing this exact problem. Hopefully the state will eventually add an edit feature, but until then at least we know there are solutions!

I went through this exact same thing about 6 months ago and it was such a stressful experience! Like others have mentioned, the PFML system really needs an edit feature - it's ridiculous that you can't fix simple mistakes like this. I ended up calling the regular PFML number and waited almost 2 hours before getting through, but the agent was actually really helpful once I finally connected. They told me this happens multiple times per day and they can usually fix it within minutes on their end. The key things that helped me were: 1) calling right at 8 AM when they open, 2) having my Social Security number, claim ID, and the specific week dates ready, and 3) being very clear about exactly what I clicked vs. what I meant to click. My payment came through about 4 business days later. The Claimyr service that Brady mentioned sounds like a great option too - wish I had known about that back then! Don't panic, this is definitely fixable, just requires getting through to someone who can make the correction.

•Thanks for sharing your experience Jamal! It's really reassuring to hear from someone who went through this months ago and got it resolved. Your tip about having all the information ready (SSN, claim ID, specific dates) is super helpful - I'll make sure to gather all of that before I call. The 4 business day timeline for payment also gives me a realistic expectation. It's frustrating that this is such a common issue that agents deal with "multiple times per day" but the system still doesn't have a simple edit button. At least knowing it's a quick fix on their end once you get through makes me feel less anxious about the whole situation!

I'm going through the exact same situation right now and this thread has been a lifesaver! I made the same mistake yesterday on my weekly cert - accidentally clicked that I didn't want payment when I desperately need it. Reading all these experiences makes me feel so much less alone in this. I'm definitely going to try the Claimyr service that multiple people have recommended since the regular phone lines seem like such a nightmare. It's crazy that this is such a common mistake but there's still no edit button - you'd think after dealing with this "multiple times per day" they would have added that feature by now! Will update once I get it sorted out. Thanks everyone for sharing your stories and solutions!

•I'm so glad this thread is helping you too, Malia! It's awful that so many of us are dealing with the same issue, but at least we can help each other navigate it. The Claimyr service really does seem like the way to go based on all the positive feedback here. I made a similar mistake last week and was beating myself up about it, but seeing how common this is makes me realize it's really the system's fault for not having basic edit functionality. Definitely update us when you get it resolved - these success stories help keep everyone's spirits up while we're dealing with this stressful situation!

I'm in the same boat as so many of you! Just made this exact mistake on my weekly cert two days ago and have been stressed out of my mind about it. This thread is honestly a godsend - I had no idea this was such a common issue or that there were solutions like Claimyr. I was dreading spending my entire day on hold just to get disconnected. It's absolutely ridiculous that PFML doesn't have an edit button when this clearly happens all the time. I'm going to try the Claimyr service first thing tomorrow morning. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences, especially Brady and Jamal for the detailed success stories. It's such a relief to know this is fixable and I'm not alone in making this mistake!

•Hey Luca, you're definitely not alone in this! I just joined this community after making the exact same mistake on my PFML weekly cert. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been such a relief - it's amazing how many people have dealt with this exact issue. The fact that agents handle this "multiple times per day" really shows how badly the system needs an edit feature. I'm planning to try the Claimyr service too based on all the positive feedback. It's so frustrating that we have to jump through hoops to fix what should be a simple correction, but at least there are solutions that work. Good luck getting yours sorted out tomorrow!

This thread is incredibly helpful! I'm dealing with a slightly different PFML issue but reading through all the solutions and experiences here gives me so much hope. The Claimyr service sounds amazing - I had no idea there were third-party services that could help navigate these government phone systems. It's honestly shocking that PFML agents deal with this certification mistake "multiple times per day" but the system still lacks a basic edit function. That's such poor user experience design, especially when people are already dealing with medical or family emergencies. I'm bookmarking this entire conversation as a resource. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share detailed experiences and solutions - this community really shows up for each other!

•I completely agree Carmen! This thread has become such a valuable resource for anyone dealing with PFML issues. It's really telling that this certification mistake happens so frequently but they haven't implemented a simple fix on the user side. The Claimyr service recommendations throughout this thread have been a game-changer for so many people here. What's your PFML issue if you don't mind me asking? Maybe someone in this helpful community has dealt with something similar and can offer advice!

I just went through this exact same situation last month and wanted to share my experience to help others! I accidentally selected "no payment" on my weekly certification and panicked when I realized there was no edit button. After reading similar threads like this one, I decided to try calling the PFML line at 833-717-2273 right at 8 AM on a Tuesday. I waited about 45 minutes (which honestly wasn't as bad as I expected based on horror stories I'd heard) and got connected to a really helpful agent. She told me this happens constantly and fixed it in literally 2 minutes - just had to verify my identity and confirm which week needed the correction. The payment showed up in my account exactly 3 business days later. My advice: call early in the morning, have your claim ID and SSN ready, and don't stress too much - it's a super common fix for them! Also considering trying that Claimyr service others mentioned for any future issues since it sounds like a real time-saver.

•Thank you so much for sharing your recent experience Anastasia! It's really encouraging to hear that you only waited 45 minutes and got it resolved so quickly. That gives me hope that maybe the PFML phone system isn't quite as impossible as some of the earlier horror stories made it seem. Your timeline of 3 business days for the payment is also really helpful to know. I'm dealing with this exact issue right now and was torn between trying the regular phone line vs the Claimyr service, but knowing that calling at 8 AM on a Tuesday worked well for you makes me think I should try both approaches. Thanks for taking the time to come back and share your success story - it really helps calm the anxiety when you're in the middle of this stressful situation!

Wow, this thread has been such a lifesaver! I literally just made this exact same mistake on my PFML weekly certification yesterday and was having a complete panic attack about it. I had no idea this was such a common issue or that there were actual solutions available. Reading through everyone's experiences - from the Claimyr service recommendations to the detailed calling strategies - has given me so much hope. It's absolutely mind-boggling that PFML agents deal with this mistake "multiple times per day" but the system still doesn't have a simple edit button. That's just terrible user experience design, especially when people are already stressed about medical leave and finances. I'm going to try calling right at 8 AM tomorrow with all my info ready (thanks for the tips Jamal and Anastasia!), and if that doesn't work out, I'll definitely give Claimyr a shot. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their stories and solutions - this community is amazing for supporting each other through these frustrating bureaucratic nightmares!

•Olivia, you're absolutely right about this being a terrible user experience design! I just went through this exact same situation a few weeks ago and was amazed at how common this mistake apparently is. The fact that it happens "multiple times per day" really shows how badly they need to add an edit feature. I ended up using the Claimyr service after reading recommendations in threads like this one, and it was honestly a game-changer - got connected to an agent in about 20 minutes instead of the horror stories about 2+ hour waits. The agent fixed it immediately and was super understanding about the mistake. Your plan to try calling at 8 AM first is smart, but definitely keep Claimyr as backup! Either way, don't stress too much - from everything I've read here, this is one of the easier PFML issues to resolve once you get through to someone. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I'm so grateful I found this thread! I made the exact same mistake on my PFML weekly certification just this morning and immediately started panicking when I realized there was no way to edit it. Reading through everyone's experiences has been such a huge relief - it's crazy how common this issue is but also reassuring to know there are proven solutions. The Claimyr service that multiple people have recommended sounds like exactly what I need, especially after hearing about Brady's 15-minute connection time and Skylar's success with it too. It's honestly ridiculous that PFML doesn't have a basic edit button when this clearly happens constantly, but at least this community has figured out the workarounds! I'm going to try Claimyr first thing tomorrow morning. Thanks to everyone who shared their detailed experiences and solutions - you've all turned what felt like a disaster into a manageable problem with a clear path forward!

•Kingston, I'm so glad you found this thread too! I literally just went through the exact same panic this morning when I realized what I'd done. It's incredible how many of us have made this same mistake - really shows how badly the PFML system needs that edit button everyone keeps mentioning. Based on all the success stories here, it sounds like both the early morning calling strategy and the Claimyr service are solid options. I'm planning to try calling at 8 AM sharp tomorrow (following Anastasia's approach since she had good luck with that timing), but I'm definitely keeping Claimyr as my backup plan if the wait times are crazy. It's such a relief to know this is a quick 2-minute fix for the agents once you actually get through to someone. Let me know how the Claimyr service works out for you - I might end up trying it too depending on how my call goes!

I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now and this thread has been incredibly helpful! Made the same mistake yesterday on my weekly cert and have been stressed about it ever since. It's really reassuring to see how many people have successfully gotten this resolved, whether through the early morning calling strategy or using Claimyr. The fact that this happens "multiple times per day" according to the agents really highlights how much PFML needs to add an edit button - it's such a basic feature that would save everyone so much time and stress! I'm going to try calling right at 8 AM tomorrow with all my documentation ready, and if that doesn't work out I'll definitely give Claimyr a shot based on all the positive experiences shared here. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their solutions and success stories - this community support makes dealing with these government systems so much more manageable!

•Ethan, you're absolutely not alone in this! I just made the exact same mistake two days ago and found this thread while desperately searching for solutions. It's honestly both frustrating and comforting to see how incredibly common this issue is - like you said, if agents are dealing with this multiple times daily, PFML really needs to prioritize adding that edit button! I ended up trying the Claimyr service yesterday after reading all the positive experiences here, and I have to say it worked exactly as advertised - got connected to an agent in about 18 minutes who fixed the issue immediately. The agent was super understanding and said it's one of the most common calls they get. Your backup plan of calling at 8 AM is smart too based on Anastasia's success with that approach. Either way, don't stress too much - from everything I've seen in this thread, it's a really quick fix once you get through to someone. Good luck and definitely update us on how it goes!
