Identity verification nightmare with ESD - wrong driver's license info cost me 5 weeks of benefits
Just went through hell with ESD because I accidentally transposed two digits in my driver's license number when filing my initial claim. My claim was flagged for identity verification and sat in limbo for FIVE WEEKS before I finally figured out what was wrong. The verification letter they sent just said my identity couldn't be verified - it didn't specify what information was incorrect! I called ESD 27 times before finally getting through to someone who could tell me exactly what was wrong. Turns out they were trying to match my DL against DOL records and the numbers didn't match. I had to submit copies of my ID through their secure message system, then wait another week for processing. SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE - double-check ALL your personal info before submitting your claim! Triple-check your: - Driver's license number (every digit matters) - License issue/expiration dates - Height/weight (I know it sounds silly but they match everything) - SSN (obviously) Just sharing this so nobody else loses over a month of benefits because of a simple typo!

This is extremely important advice! The cross-verification with DOL records is automated, and even a single digit being off will flag your claim for manual review. Unfortunately, as you discovered, the identity verification queue is currently running about 4-5 weeks behind. For anyone reading this who already submitted a claim, you can proactively check if your information matches by looking at your SecureAccess Washington account details and comparing them with your physical ID. If you spot a discrepancy, message ESD through your eServices portal IMMEDIATELY - don't wait for them to flag it. Also worth noting that the name must match EXACTLY - including middle initials, suffixes (Jr, Sr, III), etc. Even hyphenated names need to match precisely how they appear on your ID.

•Thanks for the extra info. I wish I'd known about checking my SAW details first - that would have saved me so much stress! The frustrating thing was that I kept getting different answers from ESD about why my claim was held up until someone finally pinpointed the exact issue.

OMG this JUST happened to me!!!! I'm on week 3 of waiting and getting desperate. My rent is due next week and I still haven't received a single payment. How did you finally get someone to actually look at your information? I've left 6 messages and sent 4 secure messages through eServices but no response. I'm starting to panic.

•I was stuck in identity verification for almost 6 weeks and finally got through to someone using Claimyr. It's this service that gets you through the ESD phone queue without having to redial a million times. Costs money but was worth it to me after weeks of frustration. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Once I got through to a rep, they were able to see exactly what was causing the verification issue (I had entered my height as 5'10" but my license has it as 5'11"). They manually verified me over the phone and my payments started processing 48 hours later.

Thank you for sharing this! I work with the WorkSource office (not ESD directly) but I see this issue constantly. Here's some additional information that might help others: 1. The ESD cross-verification system checks against BOTH DOL and Social Security databases 2. Common mistakes that trigger identity verification holds: - Name spelling differences (especially hyphenated names) - Address that doesn't match your current ID - DL number errors (as you experienced) - Birth date transcription errors (especially month/day reversals) 3. If your claim is already in identity verification, the fastest resolution is submitting clear photos of your ID (front and back) plus your Social Security card through the secure message portal. Label it "IDENTITY VERIFICATION DOCUMENTS" in the subject line. 4. Continue filing your weekly claims even while waiting for identity verification - once approved, you'll receive all back payments.

•This is bull!! My identity verification has been "pending" for 7 weeks now and I've uploaded my documents THREE TIMES!!! The system is broken and nobody cares. I lost my apartment and had to move in with my sister because ESD can't get their act together. How can they just leave people hanging like this???

happened to my wife to. her id was expired by like 2 weeks when she applied and she had to wait almost 2 months for benifits. they made her upload a ton of documents and then never even looked at them. finally called and got someone who just approved it over the phone in like 5 minutes. system is a joke

•The expired ID issue is particularly problematic. For anyone reading this: if your ID expired during the past 6 months, make sure to note that in your initial application comments section. Also, upload both your expired ID AND some secondary form of identification (birth certificate, passport, etc.). This helps the adjudicator process your claim faster instead of requesting additional documents.

•Don't cancel your claim! That will put you at the back of the line and you'll lose your effective date. Instead: 1. Log into your eServices account 2. Go to your dashboard 3. Click "Send a message" in the left menu 4. Choose "Update my personal information" as the category 5. Clearly explain which information needs correction (license number, expiration, etc.) 6. Attach photos of your correct documentation This will get routed to an agent who can make the correction. It may still take 1-2 weeks to process, but that's much faster than starting over with a new claim.

Quick update: After fixing the wrong info on my DL number, my claim was finally approved yesterday and ALL my back payments are scheduled to be deposited tomorrow! So thankful this nightmare is over. If anyone else is stuck in ID verification, don't give up - keep calling and checking your claim status every day.

•That's great news! Did they tell you specifically what to say when you called? I'm really struggling to get anyone to actually help me when I do get through. Did you have to talk to a tier 2 agent or regular agent? Sorry for all the questions - I'm just desperate to get this resolved like you did.

THE WORST PART ABOUT THIS is that ESD doesn't tell you WHICH piece of information is wrong! If they would just send an email saying "Your driver's license number doesn't match our records" we could fix it immediately! But instead they leave us in the dark for WEEKS guessing what might be wrong. This is by design - they WANT to delay paying people their benefits. I filed a formal complaint with the state ombudsman about this exact issue.

•While I understand your frustration, the reason they don't specify which information is incorrect is actually for security purposes. If they told people exactly which piece of ID information was wrong, it could potentially help identity thieves correct their fraudulent applications. That said, I agree the verification process takes far too long, and ESD should have more staff dedicated to the identity verification queue, especially since they know it's a common issue.

Thanks for this post! Just checked my drivers license against what I entered and realized I put the wrong issue date. Going to send a message to ESD right now before they flag my account. You probably saved me weeks of waiting!
