How to fix pending issues on Washington ESD unemployment claim - weeks stuck

I checked my correspondence and there's nothing new there. The last thing was my initial claim approval from 3 months ago.

Same thing happened to me last month. Turned out they flagged my claim because I had reported some part-time work and they needed to verify the hours. Took 3 weeks to clear up.

I did report some gig work earnings two weeks ago - maybe $150 total. I thought I filled it out correctly but maybe that's what triggered it?

That's probably it. When you report earnings, Washington ESD often puts claims into adjudication to verify the work and calculate the correct benefit amount. The system isn't great at handling partial work automatically.

You should be able to see your weekly claim details in your account history. Look for the week you reported earnings and double-check the amounts.

6 weeks is ridiculous. Have you tried contacting your state representative? Sometimes they can help with Washington ESD issues.

Manual review can take 2-6 weeks depending on the backlog. Best thing you can do is get an agent on the phone to check the status and see if they need additional documentation from you.

That's the problem though - nobody can get through to an agent! The phone system is completely overwhelmed.

I tried that yesterday and still couldn't get through. Got a busy signal for 30 minutes straight.

I had the same experience. Even calling right at 8am doesn't guarantee anything anymore.

Agreed. It's gotten worse since COVID when they had to handle so many more claims. The infrastructure just can't keep up.

Don't think that way. Not reporting income is fraud and the penalties are much worse than a temporary delay. You did the right thing by reporting it.

I know you're right, it's just frustrating when doing the right thing causes so many problems.

The Ombudsman helped me with a different Washington ESD issue last year. They don't always get involved but it's worth trying if you're really stuck.
