What does pending issues mean for Washington ESD unemployment claim?
My Washington ESD claim has been showing 'pending issues' for over a week now and I have no idea what this means. I can still file my weekly claims but no payments are being processed. The status just says there are pending issues that need to be resolved but doesn't tell me what they are or how to fix them. Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm getting really stressed because I need these payments to come through.

Pending issues usually means Washington ESD needs to verify something about your claim before they can approve payments. Could be work separation, availability for work, or job search requirements. Check your account for any questionnaires or documents they need.

•I don't see any questionnaires in my account. Should I be looking somewhere specific?

•Check under 'Your Account' then 'Correspondence' - sometimes they send forms there that you need to complete

I had pending issues for 3 weeks last year. Turned out they needed verification of my work history from my last employer. You might need to call Washington ESD to find out exactly what's holding up your claim.

•I've been trying to call but can't get through. The phone just rings and rings or gives me a busy signal.

•Yeah the phone system is terrible. I actually used a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to an agent. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Never heard of that but I'm desperate at this point. Thanks for the suggestion!

Pending issues can be several things - separation from last job, identity verification, or eligibility questions. The system flags claims that need manual review. Without seeing your specific case, hard to say what exactly is causing the hold-up.

•How long do these reviews usually take? I'm in the same situation

•Can vary from a few days to several weeks depending on the complexity and Washington ESD's current workload

•I feel you. The system is so broken. Have you tried reaching out to your state representative? Sometimes they can help push things along.

•good idea i might try that if this drags on much longer

Most common reasons for pending issues: 1) Quit vs fired discrepancy 2) Earnings reported incorrectly 3) Not meeting work search requirements 4) Identity verification needed. Check if you have any outstanding items in your account first.

•I was laid off so it shouldn't be a quit vs fired issue. Maybe it's the work search thing? I've been applying to jobs but haven't been logging them properly.

•That could definitely be it. Washington ESD requires detailed job search logs. You need to document every application, contact, and job fair attendance.

•Wait, I thought you only needed 3 job searches per week? I've been doing that

Diego Mendoza
•It's 3 job search activities per week, but they need to be properly documented with employer names, dates, and contact methods used

I had the same thing happen and it turned out my former employer contested my claim. They said I was fired for misconduct which wasn't true. Had to go through a whole appeal process.

•Oh no, how do I find out if my employer contested it?

•Washington ESD should send you a notice if there's a contest. Check your mail and your online account for any determination letters.

Same boat here. Been pending for 10 days now. The waiting is killing me financially. I don't understand why they can't just tell us what the issue is upfront.

•Right? The lack of transparency is maddening. At least give us a reason for the delay.

•Exactly! I'm checking my account multiple times a day hoping for some update

Try logging into your account early in the morning like 6 AM. Sometimes new correspondence or updates show up overnight. Also check if you have any fact-finding questionnaires that need to be completed.

•Good tip, I'll try that tomorrow morning. I usually check during the day.

•I do this too! The system seems to update overnight sometimes

Pending issues drove me crazy for a month. Finally got through to Washington ESD using Claimyr after trying to call for weeks on my own. Turns out they needed a simple form filled out that I never received notice about.

•How much does Claimyr cost? I'm already broke from being unemployed

•It was worth it for me to finally get answers. The alternative was waiting indefinitely with no income coming in.

I'm going through this right now too. It's so stressful not knowing what's wrong or how long it will take. The uncertainty is almost worse than being unemployed.

•I totally understand. The financial stress is real when you're counting on these payments

Sometimes pending issues resolve themselves after a few days once the system catches up. But if it's been over a week definitely try to get in touch with someone at Washington ESD to get specifics.

•It's been 8 days now so I think I need to take action. Going to try that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier.

Whatever you do, keep filing your weekly claims even while pending. If you stop filing you could lose eligibility for those weeks once the issue gets resolved.

Malik Robinson
•Good point, I've been doing that but wasn't sure if I should continue

Jamal Anderson
•Definitely keep filing. It's easier to get back pay for weeks you filed than to try to reopen weeks you missed

I used to work for a temp agency and saw this a lot. Usually means they're verifying your work history or wages. Can take anywhere from a few days to a month depending on how quickly employers respond to their requests.

Malik Robinson
•That makes sense. My last job was with a pretty big company so hopefully they respond quickly

•Big companies usually have dedicated departments for this stuff so should be faster than small businesses

Just wanted to update - my pending issues finally cleared after 2 weeks. Turned out to be a simple wage verification. Payments started coming through the next day. Hang in there!

One more thing - make sure your job search activities are properly documented in WorkSource. Sometimes pending issues are related to work search requirements not being met properly.

Malik Robinson
•I haven't been using WorkSource much, just applying directly to jobs. Should I be logging everything there?
0 coins
Giovanni Greco
•Yes, Washington ESD requires you to register with WorkSource and log your job search activities there. That could definitely be your issue.

•I had the same problem! Once I started logging everything in WorkSource my pending issues cleared up
