How long does it take to get a check from Washington ESD unemployment?
I just filed my first weekly claim and I'm wondering how long it usually takes to actually receive the unemployment check from Washington ESD? My claim was approved last week but I haven't seen any payment yet. Is this normal? I'm getting stressed about my rent payment coming up and need to know what to expect for timing.

Usually takes 2-3 business days after you file your weekly claim for the money to show up in your account if you have direct deposit set up. If you're waiting for a physical check it can take 5-7 business days through the mail.

•I did set up direct deposit when I filed my initial claim. So I should see it by Wednesday or Thursday then?

•Yeah that sounds about right. Just make sure your banking info was entered correctly in your Washington ESD account.

make sure you check if theres any issues with your claim that might delay payment. sometimes they put a hold on it for random verification stuff

•How do I check if there are any issues? My account just shows my weekly claim as submitted.

•Log into your Washington ESD account and look under 'Claim Status' or 'Payment History' - if there's an adjudication issue it should show up there with details about what they need from you.

I've been dealing with Washington ESD payment delays for weeks now. If you can't get through on the phone to check your claim status, I found this service called Claimyr that actually got me connected to a real person at Washington ESD. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Really helped me figure out why my payments were being held up.

•Interesting, never heard of that. How much does it cost?

•It's worth it considering how impossible it is to reach Washington ESD otherwise. Saved me weeks of calling and getting nowhere.

•I've heard good things about Claimyr too. My friend used it when her claim got stuck in adjudication for over a month.

First payments can sometimes take longer because they do extra verification. Don't panic if it takes up to a week for your first check.

•That's reassuring, thank you. I was worried something went wrong with my claim.

The timing depends on when you submit your weekly claim. Washington ESD processes payments in batches, usually Monday through Wednesday. If you file your weekly claim on Sunday, you'll typically see payment by Tuesday or Wednesday with direct deposit. Paper checks add 3-5 more days for mailing time.

•This is helpful info. I always wondered why some weeks my payment comes Tuesday and other weeks it's Wednesday.

•Yeah it's all about their processing schedule. They also don't process payments on federal holidays which can push things back a day.

•Good to know about the holidays. I filed mine Sunday evening so hopefully I'll see it by Wednesday.

Been on unemployment for 3 months now and the timing is pretty consistent once you get into the routine. Week 1 might be slower but after that it's reliable.

•Same experience here. First payment took almost a week but now it's like clockwork every Tuesday.

WASHINGTON ESD IS SO SLOW WITH EVERYTHING!!! I waited 2 weeks for my first payment and they never explained why. Their phone system is completely useless too - just hangs up on you after an hour on hold.

•I feel your frustration but 2 weeks isn't that unusual for a first payment unfortunately.

•This is exactly why I ended up using Claimyr - saved my sanity dealing with their phone system.

Pro tip: set up direct deposit if you haven't already. Paper checks take forever and can get lost in the mail. I learned that the hard way.

•Yeah I definitely set up direct deposit when I filed my initial claim. Seemed like the obvious choice.

•Smart move. I know people who waited weeks for paper checks that never showed up.

Check your bank account early in the morning on Tuesday and Wednesday. Sometimes the deposits show up overnight. Also make sure you didn't accidentally put in the wrong routing or account number.

•I double checked my banking info and it looks correct. I'll keep an eye on my account Tuesday morning.

•Yeah I always check first thing Tuesday morning. Usually there by 6am when my bank updates.

One thing that might delay your payment is if you worked any hours during the week you're claiming. Even if you reported it correctly, sometimes it triggers a review that can hold up payment for a few days.

•I didn't work any hours that week so that shouldn't be an issue for me.

•Good, that should make it straightforward then. First payments are just nerve-wracking when you need the money.

If you don't see anything by Thursday I'd try calling Washington ESD or using one of those services people mentioned to get through. Sometimes there are issues that don't show up in your online account.

•I'll give it until Thursday before I start worrying. Thanks for all the helpful responses everyone!

The waiting is definitely the worst part, especially when you're depending on that money for bills. But in my experience Washington ESD is pretty reliable once your claim is approved.

•Yeah the financial stress makes every day feel like forever when you're waiting for that first payment.

I remember my first unemployment payment took exactly 72 hours from when I submitted my weekly claim to when it hit my checking account. This was back in February though so timing might vary.

•That's pretty much the same timeline I've experienced. 2-3 business days is standard.

Quick question - did you get any confirmation email or notification after submitting your weekly claim? Just want to make sure it actually went through.
0 coins
Sophia Carson
•Yes I got a confirmation email right after submitting it, and it shows up in my claim history on the Washington ESD website.

•Perfect, sounds like everything is processing normally then.

For what it's worth, when I was having trouble reaching Washington ESD about payment issues, Claimyr was a lifesaver. Got me through to someone who could actually see what was holding up my claim. Worth checking out if you run into problems.

The important thing is you got your claim approved. First payment timing is always uncertain but after that it becomes very predictable. Hang in there!

Just wanted to add that Washington ESD doesn't issue payments over weekends or holidays. So if there's a federal holiday during the week it might push your payment back a day.

Sophia Carson
•Good point! No holidays this week though so I should be on the normal schedule.

One last thing - make sure you keep filing your weekly claims every Sunday even while you're waiting for your first payment. Don't let any weeks lapse or you'll have to start the process over.

•Definitely planning to file every week. Already have a reminder set on my phone for Sunday mornings.

Hope you get your payment soon! The first one is always the most stressful but once it comes through you'll feel so much relief.
