How long does it take to get unemployment check after claiming weeks Washington ESD?
I just submitted my weekly claims for the first time on the Washington ESD website last Tuesday. My claim was approved about 2 weeks ago but I'm still waiting for my first payment. How long does it usually take to get your unemployment check after you file your weekly claims? I'm getting really anxious because rent is due next week and I was counting on this money. Does anyone know if there are any delays right now?

Usually takes 2-3 business days after you submit your weekly claim for the payment to show up in your account. Since you filed Tuesday, you should see it by Friday at the latest. Check your payment history on the Washington ESD website to see if it's been processed yet.

•Thanks! I checked and it says 'paid' with today's date so hopefully it hits my bank account tomorrow.

•Yeah the website updates before the actual deposit goes through. Should be there by Friday morning.

Are you sure your direct deposit info is correct? I had mine go to an old bank account the first time because I forgot to update it when I moved.

•Oh no I didn't even think about that! Let me double check my banking info on the site.

•Good catch - that's happened to a lot of people. You can update it in your profile section.

I've been getting my payments like clockwork every week. File Sunday night, money is in my account by Wednesday morning. If you're not seeing it by Friday I'd be worried something went wrong with your claim.

•That's reassuring to hear it's been consistent for you. I'm probably just being paranoid since it's my first time.

•First payment always feels like it takes forever lol. After that you know the routine.

If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to check on payment issues, I recently found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you actually reach a real person at ESD. They have this video demo (https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ) that shows how it works. Way better than sitting on hold for hours just to get disconnected.

•That actually sounds really helpful. I tried calling yesterday and got nowhere.

•Never heard of that but anything beats the regular phone system. I spent 3 hours on hold last month.

•Is that legit? Sounds too good to be true tbh

The timing also depends on your bank. Some banks hold the deposit for a day or two, especially if it's your first unemployment payment from a new source.

•I have Chase so hopefully they don't hold it. I'll call them if I don't see it by Friday.

•Chase is usually pretty fast with government payments in my experience.

Just a heads up - make sure you're filing your weekly claims on time every week. If you miss the deadline you have to wait until the next cycle and it can mess up your payment schedule.

•Good to know! What's the deadline? I filed mine on Tuesday but want to make sure I don't miss it next week.

•You have to file by 11:59 PM on the Sunday after your claim week ends. So if your week ends Saturday, file by Sunday night.

Alice Coleman
•Exactly. I always file Sunday evening just to be safe.

•Log into your account and go to 'Payment History' or 'View Payment Information'. It'll show the status of each weekly claim payment.

•ok found it thanks! says pending tho not paid

Jackson Carter
•Pending means it's processing. Should change to paid within 24-48 hours usually.

I remember my first week I was refreshing my bank account every hour like it was going to magically appear faster lol. The waiting is the worst part.

•Haha that's exactly what I'm doing right now! Good to know I'm not the only one.

•We've all been there. The anxiety of waiting for that first payment is real when you're broke.

Are you filing for regular UI or is this some other type of benefit? Different programs have different processing times.
0 coins
Mateo Warren
•Just regular unemployment insurance. Got laid off from my retail job last month.

Julia Hall
•OK yeah regular UI is pretty fast once your claim is approved. Sounds like you're on the right track.

Honestly the Washington ESD system has gotten way better since COVID. Used to take like a week to get paid, now it's usually 2-3 days max.

•Really? My friend filed during COVID and it took months to get anything. Sounds like they fixed their problems.

•Yeah COVID was a nightmare but they upgraded everything after that mess. Much smoother now.

Make sure you keep filing every week even if your first payment is delayed. Don't skip weeks thinking something is wrong or you'll miss out on benefits.

•Definitely planning to keep filing. Thanks for the reminder!

If it makes you feel better I was in the exact same situation 3 months ago. Filed my first weekly claims on a Tuesday, payment showed up Thursday morning. You'll be fine.

Just want to second what someone said earlier about Claimyr - I used them last month when I had an issue with my claim being stuck and they actually got me through to someone at Washington ESD who fixed it same day. Worth looking into if you run into problems.

•how much does that cost tho? im already broke waiting for unemployment

•Honestly didn't cost much compared to the stress and time I was wasting trying to call myself. Check out their video demo to see if it's worth it for your situation.

Pro tip: set up text alerts for your bank account so you know immediately when the deposit hits. Saves you from obsessively checking your balance all day.

Check your spam folder too - sometimes the payment confirmation emails from Washington ESD end up there and you miss them.

Mateo Warren
•Good point! I found one email in spam actually. Thanks!

Sofia Price
•Yeah their emails definitely get flagged as spam sometimes. Worth checking regularly.

If your payment doesn't show up by next Tuesday I'd definitely call or use that Claimyr service someone mentioned. Better to be safe than sorry when it comes to unemployment payments.

Mateo Warren
•Agreed. I'm giving it until Friday like everyone suggested, but if nothing by Monday I'll definitely look into getting help.

Great to see a success story! For anyone else reading this thread later - the 2-3 business day timeline mentioned here is pretty accurate for Washington ESD payments once your weekly claims are processed.
