How long does it take to receive your unemployment check from Washington ESD?
I just filed my first weekly claim with Washington ESD last Tuesday and I'm wondering how long it usually takes to actually get paid. My claim shows as processed but I haven't seen any money yet. Is there a typical timeline for when unemployment checks come through? I'm getting really anxious about my bills and need to know what to expect.

Usually takes 2-3 business days after your weekly claim is processed. If it's your first payment it might take a little longer because they have to set up the payment method.

•Thanks, that's helpful. I did set up direct deposit when I first applied, so hopefully that speeds things up.

•Yeah direct deposit is definitely faster than waiting for a debit card in the mail

It depends on your payment method. Direct deposit is usually 2-3 business days. If you're getting the ReliaCard debit card, that can take 7-10 business days for the first one to arrive in the mail. After that, payments load onto the card within 1-2 business days.

•I chose direct deposit so hopefully I'll see it by Friday then. Thanks for the breakdown!

•The ReliaCard is actually pretty convenient once you get it. No fees at most ATMs and you can transfer to your bank account for free.

If you're still waiting longer than expected, you might want to check if there are any issues with your claim. Sometimes there can be adjudication holds or other problems that delay payment. I had a friend who couldn't get through to Washington ESD for weeks trying to figure out why his payments were delayed.

•How do I check if there are any holds on my account? My claim just shows as processed.

•Log into your account and look for any alerts or messages. If there's an adjudication issue, it usually shows up there. If you can't find anything and payments are still delayed, you might need to call them.

•Good luck getting through on the phone though. I've been trying for days and keep getting hung up on.

I actually just discovered this service called Claimyr that helps you get through to Washington ESD agents by phone. They have this automated system that keeps trying to connect you until you get through. Found it at claimyr.com and they even have a demo video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ. Might be worth checking out if you need to talk to someone about your payment timing.

•Interesting, I've never heard of that. Have you used it yourself?

•Yeah, I used it last month when I had a question about my job search requirements. Saved me hours of redialing and actually got me connected to a real person.

•Is there a cost for something like that?

•They don't require any personal info upfront and focus on just getting you connected. Way better than spending all day hitting redial.

BEEN WAITING 2 WEEKS FOR MY FIRST PAYMENT!!! This system is so broken. Filed my claim, got confirmation, but no money. Can't get through to anyone on the phone. How are we supposed to survive like this???

•Two weeks is definitely longer than normal. Have you checked if your claim is still showing as processed or if there's been a status change?

•It still says processed but no payment date. I'm going to lose my apartment if this keeps up.

•You might want to try that Claimyr thing the person mentioned above. If you really need to talk to someone, it sounds like it could help.

For what it's worth, I've been getting my payments pretty consistently every Wednesday via direct deposit. Usually file my claim on Sunday night and see the deposit by Wednesday afternoon. Maybe it varies by bank?

•That's good to know! I bank with Chase, wonder if that makes a difference.

•I use a local credit union, but I don't think the bank matters as much as making sure you file your claim early in the week.

The timing can also depend on when you file your weekly claim. I always file mine on Sunday evening and get paid by Wednesday. My sister files hers on Friday and doesn't get paid until the following Tuesday. Earlier in the week seems to be better.

•I filed mine on Tuesday, so maybe I should switch to filing earlier in the week.

•Yeah, definitely try Sunday or Monday next time. The processing queue seems to move faster at the beginning of the week.

•Makes sense, they probably get swamped with claims toward the end of the week.

I remember when I first started getting unemployment, I was checking my bank account every hour waiting for that first payment. Now I just know it'll be there by Wednesday and don't stress about it. The anxiety definitely gets better once you know the pattern.

•Yeah, I'm definitely doing the hourly bank account checking thing right now. Good to know it gets less stressful!

•Same here, was obsessing over it for the first few weeks. Now it's just part of my routine.

One thing to watch out for - if you have any issues with your claim (like adjudication or eligibility questions), it can delay payments for weeks. Always good to double-check that everything is clear before expecting your money.

•How would I know if there's an adjudication issue? My account doesn't show any alerts.

•It would usually show up in your claim status or you'd get a letter in the mail. If everything shows processed and you don't have any pending issues, you should be fine.

Pro tip: set up text alerts with your bank so you know immediately when the deposit hits. Saves you from constantly checking your balance.

•Most banks have mobile apps that send notifications too. Really helpful for peace of mind.
