How long after ESD approval letter until funds deposit? (Just got approved!)

Just got the approval letter from ESD this morning (finally!!!) and my account status now shows 'processing.' Super relieved but also wondering how long until the money actually hits my account? I vaguely remember reading somewhere that it takes about 48 hours after approval, but I'm not 100% sure. Bills are piling up so I'm anxiously checking my bank account every few hours. Anyone who's been through this recently - how long did you wait between getting the approval letter and seeing the funds in your account? Is there anything else I need to do at this point?

Congrats on getting approved! For direct deposit, it usually takes 2-3 business days after the 'processing' status appears. Mine took exactly 48 hours last month. Just make sure your banking info is correct in the ESD system. If you selected the debit card option instead, it can take 7-10 business days for the card to arrive by mail, though the funds will be loaded onto it within the same 2-3 day timeframe.

Thank you! I did choose direct deposit so hoping it'll be that 48 hour timeline. My banking info should be correct but I'll double check right now just to be safe.

mine took like 4 days but that was over a weekend so probably more like 2 business days. dont stress it comes pretty quick after approval

That's reassuring! Today's Wednesday so hopefully I'll see something by Friday then. Fingers crossed!

Just to add some additional information - the processing time can sometimes depend on your bank too. ESD typically processes payments within 24-48 hours after approval, but some banks hold funds for 1-2 additional business days, especially for first-time government deposits. Also, make sure you continue filing your weekly claims even while waiting for the payment. Many people forget this step and it can delay future payments.

Oh that's good to know about my bank potentially holding it. I'm with Wells Fargo if that matters. And thanks for the reminder about weekly claims! I actually wasn't sure if I needed to keep filing while waiting for this first payment.

I got my approval on a Thursday morning and money was there Monday. My sister got approved on a Monday and had her money Wednesday. Seems like it depends on when in the week you get approved because of the weekend.

DON'T get too excited yet!! Sometimes they say "approved" but then something ELSE gets flagged for adjudication and you end up waiting WEEKS longer!! Happened to me twice. My claim said approved then a week later I got another letter saying they needed to verify my work history AGAIN. So frustrating!!!!!

Oh no, that sounds awful! Did you ever figure out why they flagged it a second time? I'm hoping that doesn't happen to me since my claim was pretty straightforward.

My former employer disputed something on my claim form. Then ESD couldn't reach them to verify so I was stuck in limbo. The whole system is BROKEN! Took me calling 87 times in one day to finally get through to someone who could help.

After waiting forever on hold trying to get info about a similar situation, I found this service called Claimyr that helped me actually get through to ESD. Saved me literally hours of waiting on hold. You might want to check them out at claimyr.com if you run into any issues with your payment not showing up. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3

does that actually work? ive been trying to get thru to esd for days about my missing payment

Yeah it did for me. They basically hold your place in line so you don't have to stay on hold for hours. When an agent is available they call you back. Way better than trying to get through on your own.

I got approved back in February and went through the same anxiety checking my account constantly lol. For me it took exactly 3 business days for the money to show up. Also just a heads-up that your first payment might be larger than expected if they owe you back payments from previous weeks. I nearly fell off my chair when I saw the amount that hit my account!

Thanks! Yes, they do owe me for 2 previous weeks so I'm hoping to see a larger first payment. That would really help catch up on bills.

One more important thing to be aware of - if this is your first time on unemployment, remember that you'll need to pay federal taxes on these benefits next year. ESD gives you the option to withhold 10% for federal taxes, but it's not automatic. Might be worth logging in and setting that up now before your first payment if you haven't already.

Oh wow, I totally forgot about taxes. I'm going to log in and set up that withholding right now. Really appreciate the reminder!
