Finally out of ESD adjudication after 3 months - when will backpay and weekly benefits actually arrive?
After what feels like FOREVER (almost 3 months!!), I finally got my approval letter from ESD yesterday saying I'm out of adjudication. Such a relief! But now I'm confused about when I'll actually see the money. Does anyone know if payments start automatically or do I need to do something else? Will I get paid for all those past weeks I was filing while stuck in adjudication? And when should I expect to see the first deposit - next week? I've been surviving on credit cards and really need to start paying those down. Thanks for any insight!

congrats on getting approved! I was in adjudication for 2 months last year. They should pay you for all back weeks within 3-5 business days automatically as long as you filed weekly claims for those weeks

•Thank you! That's a relief. I did file every single week religiously, even though it felt pointless while stuck in adjudication. Fingers crossed I see that deposit soon.

The payment process should begin automatically now that you're out of adjudication. Here's what typically happens: 1. Your backpay for all previously filed weeks should be processed within 48-72 business hours after approval 2. The funds will show as 'paid' in your eServices account before they actually hit your bank account or debit card 3. Direct deposit usually takes 1-2 business days after showing 'paid' in the system 4. If you're using the ReliaCard, it might take 2-3 business days Double-check your eServices account to make sure all your weekly claims show as 'processed' rather than 'pending.' If any are still pending, you might need to contact ESD about those specific weeks.

•This is super helpful, thank you! I just checked eServices and everything still shows as 'pending' even though I got the approval letter. Should I be worried or does it take some time for the system to update?

They ALWAYS say it'll process quickly but for me it took over 2 weeks to get my backpay after being approved!!! The ESD system is sooo slow. And when I called they just kept saying "it's in process" but couldn't tell me when I'd actually get paid. So frustrating!

•That's unusual but can happen if there are other issues with your claim. The standard processing time is 2-3 business days for most claims once they're out of adjudication. The system might be delayed if there's a high volume of claims being processed, but two weeks is definitely longer than normal. Did they ever explain why yours took so long?

I've been through this before! You should check your payment method in eServices. If you originally set up direct deposit but your bank info was wrong or your account closed, they'll try to send it there first, fail, then have to issue a physical check which takes way longer. Happened to me and I didn't figure it out until I called.

•Good point! I just double-checked and my bank info is correct in the system. I set up direct deposit when I first applied. Hoping that means things will go smoothly!

If you don't see the status change in eServices to "paid" within 3-4 business days, you should definitely call ESD directly. Sometimes there can be payment holds that aren't reflected in the approval letter. When I went through this in February 2025, I had to call because there was an additional verification step needed for my backpay amount. Trying to reach ESD can be frustrating though - I spent days trying to get through their phone lines. I finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an ESD agent within about 20 minutes instead of spending hours on hold. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Once I got through to an actual person, they fixed the issue on the spot and my payment processed the next day.

•is that service legit? seems weird to pay someone else just to call unemployment for you

Anyone know if there's a way to see exactly how much backpay you'll get before it actually arrives? My adjudication just ended too but I can't figure out where to see the total amount they'll be paying me for all those weeks.

•You can calculate it manually by looking at your weekly benefit amount (WBA) in your eServices account and multiplying it by the number of weeks you claimed. Keep in mind they'll withhold taxes if you opted for that. There isn't a specific place that shows the total backpay amount until it's actually processed, but each individual week should show your benefit amount.

UPDATE: Just wanted to share some good news - my eServices account now shows all my back weeks as "paid"! The status changed this morning, so it took about 2 business days after receiving my approval letter. The total is actually showing in my account now too. For anyone curious, my timeline was: - Monday: Got approval letter - Wednesday morning: Status changed to paid Now just waiting for the money to hit my bank account. I'll update again when that happens in case it helps anyone else going through this. Thanks everyone for your helpful advice!

•Awesome! That's great to hear. Seems like your claim is moving along the normal timeline. I bet you'll see the deposit by Friday morning. Such a relief, right?

When mine got approved last year i had to wait almost 2 weeks for backpay but then regular weekly payments started coming on time after that. so confusing why it works different for everyone, like some people get paid in 2 days and others wait weeks??? makes no sense

•EXACTLY!! The system is totally inconsistent! My neighbor and I both got approved the same week and she got paid in 3 days while mine took over 2 weeks. And we had almost identical situations! ESD needs to fix their process.

FINAL UPDATE: The money arrived in my bank account this morning! So the full timeline was: - Monday: Approval letter - Wednesday: Status changed to "paid" in eServices - Friday morning: Money in my bank account Thanks again to everyone who helped explain the process and timeline. Such a relief to finally have this resolved after 3 months of stress and uncertainty. Hope this helps anyone else going through adjudication!

•That's excellent news! This is exactly the normal timeline when everything is working correctly in the system. Glad it all worked out for you. Make sure you continue filing your weekly claims on time to keep receiving benefits. And don't forget about your job search activities - you need 3 per week and they can audit those records anytime within a year.

Congratulations on finally getting approved! Three months in adjudication sounds absolutely brutal. I'm currently on week 6 of waiting for my adjudication decision and posts like yours give me hope that there's light at the end of the tunnel. Your timeline from approval to actual payment (Monday approval letter to Friday deposit) is really helpful to know. I've been stressing about how long the payment process would take once I finally get approved. Thanks for sharing all the updates - this kind of detailed timeline is exactly what people in our situation need to see!
