ESD adjudication approved but weekly claims still pending - Do I wait until employer appeal deadline?
Just got my approval letter from ESD saying my adjudication was successful (finally!). The letter mentioned they sent the same notice to my previous employer, giving them until January 1st, 2025 to file an appeal if they want to contest it.\n\nHere's what's confusing me - all my weekly claims are still showing as "pending" in the system. Do I have to wait until after the employer's appeal deadline passes before my payments will be processed? Or should they start processing now?\n\nI've got bills piling up and really need to know when I might actually see some money. Has anyone been through this before? What was your timeline like after adjudication approval but before the appeal deadline?

Congrats on getting through adjudication! The good news is that ESD should start processing your payments soon, typically within 3-5 business days after the approval. You don't need to wait for the employer appeal deadline to pass. The system is designed to pay you now, and if your employer successfully appeals later (which is rare), you would potentially have to pay back benefits at that point.\n\nIf your payments don't start processing within a week, I'd recommend contacting ESD directly to ask about the delay.

That's a relief to hear! I was worried I'd have to wait another two weeks before seeing anything. I'll give it until the end of the week and then reach out if nothing changes. Thanks!

OMG my situation was EXACTLY like yours last month!! my weekly claims sat as pending for almost TWO WEEKS after my approval letter came!! i was freaking out the whole time. turns out there was a verification issue with my identity documents they never told me about. had to upload my license AGAIN. check your notices section maybe theres something there they need?

I just checked and don't see any new notices asking for documentation. Maybe I'll try uploading my ID again anyway just to be safe? The ESD system seems to lose things sometimes.

I wouldn't upload documents unless they specifically ask for them. That can sometimes flag your account for unnecessary review and delay things further. Just give the system a few days to process your approval.

my ex-boss tried to appeal my claim. the payments started like 3 days after my approval letter, way before his appeal deadline. the money should come pretty soon but watch out cause they might still try to fight it

In my experience working with ESD claims, your payments should begin processing within 3-7 business days of adjudication approval. The employer appeal deadline doesn't affect payment timing.\n\nIt's important to know that approximately 90% of eligible claims do get paid before any appeal deadlines. The pending status is normal for a short period while they calculate your payment amount based on your reported earnings and withholding preferences.\n\nIf you see no change by Monday, there could be additional verification needed. Sometimes this happens when there's a mismatch between your reported earnings and what your employer reported, or if you have multiple employers involved in your base year calculation.

Thanks for the detailed explanation! That's really helpful to understand what might be happening behind the scenes. I'll give it until Monday before I start worrying again.

The whole ESD system is completely broken! I was in the exact same situation and my claims stayed pending for OVER A MONTH even after adjudication approval! Every time I called ESD I got disconnected or waited hours just to be told \

A month?! That's terrible. Did you ever find out what caused the delay? I'm really hoping mine doesn't take that long.

If you've been struggling to reach ESD about your pending payments, I found a service called Claimyr that actually helped me get through to a real person. I was in a similar situation and spent days trying to get answers. The service connected me to an ESD agent in about 25 minutes when I had been failing for days on my own. They have a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 and their website is claimyr.com. It was worth it to finally get my claim unstuck.

It worked for me! The system basically keeps dialing for you and then alerts you when it gets through. Saved me hours of redial frustration.

In my case my weekly claims switched from pending to paid about 4 days after adjudication approval. But I had already submitted all my job search activities for each week. Are you making sure to document your 3 job search activities each week? That could also cause delays if you haven't been doing that part correctly.

Yes, I've been documenting all my job search activities every week. I make sure to include all the required information for each application/contact. Fingers crossed my timeline is similar to yours!

wait are we supposed to start the job search activities before we get paid? i thought we only had to do that after approval??

You're required to complete and document 3 job search activities for each week you claim benefits, starting from your very first weekly claim. The only exception is if you've been specifically approved for standby status or are in an approved training program. If you haven't been doing job search activities, you should start immediately and document them in your weekly claims.

Just to update you - I checked the ESD handbook and confirmed that payments generally begin processing within 72 hours of adjudication approval, regardless of the employer appeal deadline. If your payments don't start by early next week, I'd recommend calling ESD directly. Their current call center hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm.\n\nOne thing to watch for: make sure all your weekly certifications are complete and don't have any errors. Sometimes a single error in one week can hold up all your payments.
