Got ESD approval letter but still in adjudication - when will payments actually arrive?
So confused right now! I received an official ESD letter dated December 3rd stating I qualify for unemployment benefits (they specifically said my job separation wasn't misconduct). Great news, right? But when I check my eServices account, it STILL shows 'adjudication in progress' status. It's been 9 days since that approval letter arrived and no money has hit my account. Do I need to do something else to trigger the payments? How long after getting an approval letter should I expect to see actual payments? My rent is due January 1st and I'm getting really nervous about making it...

congrats on the approval! the system usually takes 2-3 business days to update after a decision letter, sometimes longer during holidays. have you been filing your weekly claims this whole time?

•Yes, I've filed every single week without missing any! That's what makes this even more frustrating - I thought once approved the money would come pretty quickly. Should I call them or just keep waiting?

This actually happens quite often. The approval letter and system status don't always sync up immediately. Here's what's likely happening: 1. Your adjudication was resolved (the misconduct issue was decided in your favor) 2. But there might be additional verification steps happening behind the scenes 3. The system status lags behind the actual claim progress I'd give it until next Monday (so about 2 weeks total from your approval letter). If you still don't see payments by then, you should definitely call ESD to check what's happening. Make sure to have your approval letter handy when you call - sometimes different departments don't have access to the same information.

•Thank you! I'll give it until Monday and then try calling. Just stressful watching my bank account dwindle while waiting for this to resolve. Crossing my fingers it updates on its own by then!

HAHAHA good luck getting anyone on the phone!! I spent 3 WEEKS trying to reach ESD after I got my approval letter. My status was stuck in adjudication for a month after I got my approval letter!! The systems they use are completely broken and nobody there knows what's going on. Keep filing weekly, but don't expect payments anytime soon. They'll probably make you verify your identity again even though you already did it.

•That's not helpful at all. Just because you had a bad experience doesn't mean everyone will. My payments started exactly 10 days after my approval letter back in October. The system actually works most of the time.

When you received your approval letter, did it specify that the payments would be released immediately? Sometimes there's a line in those letters about "additional processing time" which is easy to miss. Also, double-check that you've completed all identity verification steps. Even with an approval, payments won't process until your ID verification is 100% complete. Look under the "Notices" section in eServices to see if there are any outstanding items. If everything looks good on your end, I'd suggest calling ESD directly. December is historically their busiest month with holiday seasonal layoffs, so the processing time might be longer than usual.

•I just double-checked the letter and it doesn't say anything about additional processing time. Just that I qualified based on their investigation of the separation issue. My ID verification shows completed in the portal. So frustrating!

When I was in this exact situation (approved but still showing in adjudication), I tried calling ESD for DAYS but couldn't get through because of the call volume. I finally tried using Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an ESD agent in about 15 minutes. They explained that my claim was actually waiting for a supervisor review even though I'd been approved. The agent pushed it through while I was on the phone and I got paid 2 days later. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Saved me weeks of stress.

•Oh wow, I've never heard of that service. I might try that if I can't get through on Monday. Did they actually solve your issue or just tell you what was happening?

•The ESD agent I got connected to actually fixed it while I was on the phone. Turns out my claim needed one final approval that was stuck in someone's queue. The agent moved it to the top of the list and processed it immediately. Without that call I would've been waiting who knows how long.

i had a similar thing happen. got my approval letter but no money. turned out i had accidentally entered my bank account number wrong when i first filed! 🤦♀️ might be worth double checking your payment info in the system just to be sure!

•Just checked and my banking info is correct in the system. Thanks for the suggestion though! I'll keep that in mind if this happens again.

Has anyone verified if Holiday season affects ESD payment processing? I'm wondering if the December timing might be causing extra delays with staff taking time off. Back in July when I was on unemployment, my payments started flowing immediately after approval, but that wasn't during any holiday period.

•Yes, December is definitely one of the slowest months for ESD processing. They get hit with seasonal retail and construction layoffs plus holiday staffing is reduced. January is typically when things speed back up to normal timeframes.

UPDATE: My claim status FINALLY changed from adjudication to paid this morning! The funds aren't in my account yet, but at least the status updated. For anyone with the same issue - it took exactly 11 days from approval letter to status change. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!

•Great news! The funds should be in your account within 24-48 hours depending on your bank. Glad it resolved without having to make those frustrating phone calls.
