ESD approval letter delayed after first payment - where to find it?
I finally got my first unemployment payment deposited today (thank goodness!) but I still haven't received my official approval letter from ESD. My new landlord is asking for written proof that I'm receiving unemployment benefits before finalizing my lease. I've checked eServices and all I can find is payment history, but no actual approval letter. I got the initial 'we received your application' email weeks ago, but nothing official stating I've been approved. Has anyone else had this issue? How long after your first payment did you get the approval letter? Is there somewhere in the ESD portal where I can download or request one?

This happened to me too! ESD is so bad with their documentation. I got my first payment in February and didn't get my approval letter until almost 3 weeks later. I think they're super backed up right now. For your landlord situation, try going to your eServices account and taking a screenshot of your payment history page - my property manager accepted that as proof while I waited for the official letter.

•Thanks for the suggestion about the screenshot! I'll try that tomorrow. Did your approval letter come by regular mail or was it in your eServices account somewhere?

•Thanks! That's interesting - I've checked my letters tab multiple times and there's nothing there except the initial application confirmation. Maybe I should call them?

The approval letter should be in your eServices account under the 'Letters' section. It's typically titled "Unemployment Insurance Monetary Determination" or something similar. If it's not there, you might need to request it directly from ESD. For your landlord situation, you have three options: 1. Print your payment history from eServices (click on "Payment History" tab) 2. Request a formal benefit verification letter by messaging ESD through your account 3. Call ESD directly and ask them to email you a copy Be aware that benefit verification letters are different from initial approval letters - the verification letter specifically confirms your current claim status and benefit amount.

•Thank you for this detailed explanation! I looked under Letters again and still don't see anything like a Monetary Determination. I'll try sending them a message through eServices to request one specifically.

I had the same issue last month! Called ESD like 20 times and couldn't get through. Super frustrating!!!!! I ended up having to go to WorkSource in person and they helped me print an official benefit verification letter right there. Saved me so much headache.

•Going to WorkSource is a great idea! There's one about 15 minutes from me. Did you need an appointment or could you just walk in?

The issue you're experiencing is actually quite common with ESD right now. There's a distinction between the monetary determination letter (which shows your potential benefit amount based on your work history) and the actual claim approval notification. Many landlords will accept a Benefits Verification Letter, which you can request specifically. Here's what I recommend: 1. Try calling ESD at 800-318-6022 to request a Benefits Verification Letter specifically for housing 2. Be prepared with your claim ID and personal information 3. Explain it's for housing and time-sensitive Unfortunately, getting through to ESD by phone can be extremely difficult these days. If you've been trying without success, you might want to check out Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have a service that helps you connect with ESD agents without waiting on hold for hours. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 that explains how it works. I used them last month when I had issues with my adjudication and got through to ESD in about 25 minutes instead of spending days trying to call.

•I've been calling the 800 number for days with no luck. I'll definitely check out that Claimyr service - at this point I just need to talk to a human at ESD! Thanks for the recommendation.

I went through similar hell with this last year. The whole system is designed to be confusing and frustrating. From my experience, the "approval letter" isn't really a thing anymore - they mostly just start paying you. The Monetary Determination letter is what shows your weekly benefit amount, but it doesn't exactly say "APPROVED" anywhere on it. What your landlord probably wants is proof of income, which is the Benefit Verification Letter others mentioned. But good luck getting anyone at ESD on the phone!!! Took me NINE DAYS of calling.

•Nine days?? That's insane! I'm definitely going to try that Claimyr service the other person mentioned. I think you're right that my landlord just needs income verification - he keeps using the term "approval letter" but I'm pretty sure he just wants proof I'm getting benefits.

•I've checked my spam folder pretty regularly but I'll look again. And I haven't received anything in regular mail yet either. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Just wanted to follow up - were you able to get what you needed? If you're still struggling with this, there are a couple of other options: 1. The self-service option: If you go to your eServices account, under the "More" dropdown menu, there should be an option for "Benefits Verification" where you can generate a letter yourself 2. WorkSource offices can sometimes help with documentation needs when you can't reach ESD directly 3. As a last resort, a written statement from you along with bank statements showing the deposits from Employment Security Department might work for your landlord temporarily

•Thank you for checking back! I used Claimyr yesterday and finally got through to ESD. They're emailing me an official benefit verification letter today. The agent said there's been a system issue with some of the automatic letters not generating properly. For anyone else with this issue - definitely check the "More" dropdown menu as suggested, but in my case that option wasn't showing up due to the system glitch.
