First-time claim stuck on 'processing-web' for 2 weeks - no updates from ESD
So I just filed for unemployment for the first time ever two weeks ago after my marketing position was eliminated. I've completed two weekly claims since then, but both just say 'processing-web' when I check my account. I haven't received ANY communication from ESD since last Thursday - no emails, letters, nothing in my eServices inbox. The money situation is getting tight and I'm starting to worry. Is this normal? How long does it usually take to move past the 'processing-web' stage? Should I be doing something else? Any advice from people who've been through this before would be really appreciated!

this is pretty normal for first time claims... mine was 'processing-web' for almost 3 weeks before anything happened. ESD is seriously understaffed right now and they have a huge backlog. if you don't hear anything by next week tho, u might wanna try calling them

•Thanks for the reassurance! Do you remember what happened next? Did they send you an email or letter, or did it just change in the system one day?

' Processing-web typically means your claim is in the initial review stage. For first-time claims, this can take 2-4 weeks as the department verifies your employment history and eligibility. A few things to know: 1. Continue filing your weekly claims even while waiting 2. Check your spam folder for emails from ESD 3. Look for paper mail - some notifications only come via USPS 4. Make sure your contact information is updated in eServices If it stays 'in' processing-web for more than 3 weeks, you should try contacting ESD directly. Their phone lines are often jammed, but early (morning right when they) open is usually the best time tocall.

•Thank you so much for this detailed information! I'll definitely keep filing my weekly claims. I've been checking my spam folder but will make sure to watch for physical mail too. My contact info should be correct but I'll double-check that as well.

my claim got stuck in processing for like 5 WEEKS last year and it turned out they needed more info from my employer but never told me!! super frustrating. i'd try calling them sooner rather than later honestly

•Same thing happened to me! They never contacted me but somehow expected me to know they needed additional verification. The system is seriously broken. I ended up waiting almost 2 months for payments.

I've helped several people through this process. Here's what might be happening: 1. Your identity verification might be pending (this is very common for first-time filers) 2. They could be contacting your employer to verify separation details 3. There might be a wage investigation if your reported wages don't match their records 4. Your claim might be flagged for potential issues that require adjudication The "processing-web" status doesn't tell you which of these is happening, unfortunately. You can try checking your "Notices/Letters" section in eServices - sometimes there are messages there that don't generate email notifications. If you're approaching the 3-week mark with no movement, I'd recommend trying to reach an ESD agent. It's difficult but not impossible.

•This is really helpful, thank you! I didn't realize there could be so many different things happening behind the scenes. I'll check the Notices/Letters section right away. If I do need to call them, should I just keep trying the main number or is there a better strategy?

i been on UI three times in last five years and its always a mess lol... processing-web doesn't mean anything bad just means ur in the queue. keep doing ur weekly claims and make SURE ur doing ur work search activities (3 per week) and logging them correctly otherwise you'll have a whole other headache. also double check that ur SSN and DOB are entered right in the system cuz small errors can hold things up for weeks

•THIS!!! The work search requirements are no joke. I missed one week of logging my job search activities and my payments got held up for over a month while they investigated. Document EVERYTHING.

When I ran into this exact situation last year, I tried calling ESD for two weeks straight and couldn't get through. The phone lines are completely overwhelmed. I finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an actual ESD agent within about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Turned out there was a simple identity verification issue they needed to clear up, and the agent fixed it while I was on the phone. My status changed from processing to paid within 48 hours after that call.

NOBODY at ESD tells you this, but "processing-web" can also mean they're waiting for quarterly wage data from your employer!!! The timing of when you filed might be right at a quarter boundary, and they might be waiting for the official wage reports. This happened to me and I wasted 3 weeks not knowing what was going on. The system is HORRIBLE at communicating what's actually happening with your claim.

•Oh wow, I hadn't even considered that! I did file right at the end of March, so maybe that's part of the issue. It's so frustrating that they don't communicate better about what's happening.

One more thing - make sure you're checking both your eServices messages AND your SecureAccess Washington (SAW) messages. Sometimes important communications go to one but not the other. Also, not all status changes generate notifications - I recommend checking your claim status directly every couple of days.

•Thanks for the follow-up! I didn't realize there were separate message systems - I'll check both places. I've been checking the claim status daily (probably too often out of anxiety) but will keep doing that.

•That's good advice. And just to add - when you do get through to ESD eventually, ask them to check if there are any "issues" or "alerts" on your claim that might not be visible to you. Sometimes there are pending items that don't show up in your online portal.

•Still stuck in processing-web as of today. I tried calling yesterday but couldn't get through after 45 minutes of waiting and trying different options. Going to try again tomorrow morning right when they open. Really getting worried about paying rent next month if this doesn't get resolved soon.
