Weekly claim stuck in 'processing' after briefly showing 'processing-web' - payment delayed
I just got laid off two weeks ago and filed my first unemployment claim ever. Super frustrating situation happening with my weekly claim status. On Sunday afternoon it changed to 'processing-web' with a message saying payment would arrive within 48 hours. I was so relieved! But then Monday it flipped back to just 'processing' and it's been stuck there since. No payment has shown up in my account. \n\nThere aren't any alerts or messages in my ESD account that explain what's going on. I've been trying to contact someone at ESD but the phone system is like a maze that goes nowhere. I keep getting disconnected or told to call back later.\n\nIs this normal for first-time claims? Does 'processing-web' to 'processing' mean there's a problem? I'm getting really anxious because rent is due next week and I was counting on this payment. Any insight would be super helpful!

Unfortunately, this is pretty typical for first-time claims. The system often shows 'processing-web' when it first accepts your weekly claim submission, but then moves back to 'processing' when it's in the verification queue. My first payment took about 3 weeks even though the website initially said 48 hours. \n\nDon't panic yet! No alerts or messages is actually a good sign - it means they haven't found any issues that need addressing. It's just moving through their painfully slow system.

Thanks for the reassurance! 3 weeks seems like forever though... did yours eventually switch without you having to contact them? And was there any warning before the money arrived or did it just show up?

First-time claims almost always go through an identity verification period that can add 7-14 days to the processing time. The system isn't great at communicating this. The 'processing-web' status briefly appears when your claim first enters the system, then reverts to 'processing' while it goes through various automated and manual checks.\n\nA few things that might help:\n\n1. Make sure you continue filing your weekly claims on time even if you haven't received payment yet\n\n2. Double-check that your identity verification is complete in your ESD account (look under 'Upload Documents' section)\n\n3. Check your banking information is correct in the system - sometimes payments get rejected because of incorrect routing/account numbers\n\n4. Be patient for at least 7-10 business days from your initial filing before getting too concerned\n\nIf you don't see movement after two weeks, then you should try to contact ESD directly.

This is super helpful, thank you! I didn't realize there was a separate identity verification period. I'll check the document upload section right now. It looks like my banking info is correct though, so that's not the issue.

When I first filed unemployment in January, my claim was stuck in processing for three weeks! I called ESD every day for TWO WEEKS STRAIGHT and could never get through. The phone system would just hang up on me after saying

It's definitely frustrating. The system wasn't designed to handle the volume they're dealing with. The hold times are unbelievable these days.

I went through this exact situation about a month ago. After my claim was stuck in 'processing' for about 10 days, I finally got through to an ESD agent who fixed it on the spot. The payment arrived the next day!\n\nThe key is actually speaking to a human at ESD, but their phone system makes it nearly impossible. After failing for days, I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an agent without waiting on hold for hours. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3\n\nIt was worth it for me since I was about to miss rent payments. The agent told me my claim was just sitting in a queue and needed someone to manually approve it.

I've never heard of this service but I'm getting desperate. Did the ESD agent say why your claim was stuck or was it just a random delay? I'm wondering if I should wait another week or try to get someone on the phone ASAP.

The agent said first-time claims often get flagged for additional review even when there aren't any actual issues. Mine was just waiting for someone to look at it. If you can afford to wait another week, you might be fine, but if you need the money urgently it's worth trying to get through to someone.

This is a very common issue with first-time claims. Here's what's actually happening in the ESD system:\n\n1. When you submit a weekly claim, it initially shows as 'processing-web' which means the system has accepted your submission\n\n2. Next, it moves to 'processing' when it enters the verification queue\n\n3. For first-time claims, ESD automatically runs several verification checks including identity verification, employment history verification, and eligibility determination\n\n4. These checks can take 2-3 weeks for first-time claims, even when there are no issues\n\n5. Once all verifications are complete, it will change to 'paid' status and payment will be issued\n\nFor your first claim, this delay is normal and doesn't indicate a problem. However, if you're approaching the 3-week mark without movement, I would recommend trying to contact ESD. Continue filing your weekly claims on time regardless of payment status.

Thank you for breaking this down! This makes so much more sense now. Do subsequent weekly claims usually process faster once the first one is approved? I'll make sure to keep filing on time.

Yes, once your first claim is approved, subsequent weekly claims typically process much faster - usually within 2-3 business days. The lengthy verification only happens for the initial claim or if something in your situation changes that triggers a new review.

has anyone else noticed how ridiculous it is that they expect us to live without money for WEEKS while they process claims?? like what am i supposed to tell my landlord? \

EXACTLY!!! It's completely INSANE! My car payment was late and I got hit with a $39 late fee because of ESD's incompetence. Do they reimburse us for late fees? OF COURSE NOT. The whole system needs to be rebuilt from scratch.

If you're facing immediate financial hardship while waiting for unemployment benefits, you might qualify for emergency assistance through DSHS. Their Emergency Cash Assistance Program can help with essential needs while you wait for your unemployment to process.

Nothing yet! Still showing as 'processing' but I'm going to give it another week before I panic based on everyone's advice here. I'm looking into that Claimyr service as a backup plan if it doesn't change soon. Thanks for checking in!
