ESD approved claim but weekly payments still showing 'pending' - when will money arrive?
Hey everyone, I'm feeling a bit confused about my unemployment timeline. I filed my initial claim on January 15th, 2025, and just got a message that ESD approved my claim this past Friday (Jan 29th). Great news, right? But here's where I'm confused - my first two weekly claims still show as "pending" in my eServices portal, and the one I submitted this past Sunday shows "pending - web". I'm getting pretty anxious since rent is due next week. Does anyone know if this is normal? Should I expect the money to hit my account soon, or am I in for a longer wait? I've never been on unemployment before, so I have no idea what's typical. My job at the restaurant abruptly closed with only 3 days notice, and my savings are getting pretty thin.

congrats on getting approved! that part can take forever. the pending status is normal, mine showed that way for about 7-10 days after approval before changing to paid. then it took another 2-3 days for money to hit my acct.

•Thanks for the info! 7-10 days after approval is definitely longer than I was hoping for. Did you have to do anything to make it change from pending to paid, or did it just happen automatically?

The approval is just the first step in the process. Once approved, each weekly claim still needs to be processed individually. The "pending - web" status means your weekly claim was received through the online system and is waiting to be processed. Most claims go from pending to paid within 3-5 business days after approval, so you should see movement by the middle of next week. If you don't see any status change by next Friday, then you should contact ESD directly since there might be an issue with your payment processing. Make sure you've set up your payment method in eServices (direct deposit or debit card).

•Thank you! I set up direct deposit when I first applied. Does it matter that my status says "pending - web" for the newest claim but just "pending" for the earlier ones? Is that a sign of progress or just a different label?

•A MONTH?? Oh no, I can't wait that long! I was counting on getting paid this week. My landlord isn't exactly the understanding type...

Listen, the ESD system is COMPLETELY BROKEN. I was approved in December and had to wait THREE WEEKS before my payments started processing normally. They claim 3-5 business days but that's a joke. I had to call them 12 times before I got through to someone who could actually explain why my payments were stuck in pending. Turns out there was a "flag" on my account they never bothered to tell me about! Don't just sit around waiting or you'll be in the same boat. You need to be proactive and CALL THEM.

•That's terrifying. How did you finally get through to them? I've tried calling twice but got disconnected both times after waiting for like 45 minutes.

I went through this exact situation last month. The approval notification is certainly encouraging, but the payment timeline can vary. What most people don't realize is that once your claim is approved, there's a separate payment processing system that handles the weekly claims. The "pending" status is completely normal. In my case, it took about 4 business days after approval for my payments to change from pending to paid. If you need to speak with an ESD agent about your specific timeline (which isn't a bad idea given your rent situation), I'd recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They helped me get through to ESD in about 15 minutes instead of spending hours on hold. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Also, make sure you continue filing your weekly claims on time, even if the previous ones are still pending. Missing a weekly claim can delay everything further.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I might try that service if I don't see any movement by Thursday. Is it difficult to use? And yes, I'm definitely keeping up with my weekly claims - that's one thing I understood clearly from the beginning!

My situation was different from yours but might be helpful. I got approved but then my payments stayed pending for 2 weeks. When I finally reached ESD, they said I had to complete additional ID verification that they never notified me about. Worth checking if you have any outstanding tasks in your eServices account or messages that might explain the delay. Sometimes the system doesn't properly notify you about these requirements.

•That's a good idea. I just double-checked my account and don't see any outstanding tasks or alerts, but maybe I should check the correspondence section more carefully.

I'm literally going through the exact same thing right now! Approved on the 27th, and my claims still say pending too. It's so frustrating not knowing when money will actually arrive. Let me know if yours changes status soon? I'll update here if mine does.

•Will do! It's comforting to know I'm not alone in this situation at least. I'll definitely post an update when I see any changes.

Quick update for everyone following this thread: The ESD website is currently showing a banner that they're experiencing higher than normal processing times for initial payments after approval. They're estimating 7-10 business days for new claims to process the first payment. This might explain why so many of us are seeing longer pending periods recently.

•thx for sharing! wish they would just tell us these things directly instead of making us hunt for info

To answer your previous question about the different pending statuses: "Pending" typically means the claim is in the general processing queue. "Pending - web" specifically indicates it was submitted through the online system rather than by phone or in person. They're essentially the same status in terms of payment timeline. One more thing - make sure you've completed all your job search activities and documented them properly. Sometimes claims stay pending if your job search log isn't complete. You need 3 job search activities for each week you claim.

•Update for everyone! My status just changed from pending to paid for my first two weeks! The money hasn't hit my account yet, but at least there's movement. It took exactly 6 business days after approval. The third week is still showing pending-web, which makes sense since I just filed it recently. Thanks for all the help and support!
