ESD weekly claim system showing February 1st, 2025 as week start date instead of end date - system error?

Has anyone else gotten messages from ESD with completely wrong dates for their weekly claims? I just received a notification about filing for "the week beginning 02/01/2025" - but February 1st, 2025 is a SATURDAY, which would be the END of a claim week, not the beginning! Washington's claim weeks run Sunday-Saturday, right? I'm worried about filing correctly and don't want to mess up my benefits. Is this just a weird typo in their automated system or something more serious? Should I call ESD about this or just ignore it and file as normal? I've had so many issues with my claim already and really can't afford any more delays.

OMG i got the SAME message!!!! I was so confused because i always thought claim weeks started on sundays?? i just assumed i was remembering wrong or something. glad im not the only one seeing this weirdness

Phew, at least I'm not alone in this! Have you tried filing yet or are you waiting for clarification?

This is definitely a system error. You're correct that Washington state unemployment claim weeks run Sunday through Saturday. The "week beginning 02/01/2025" message is incorrect since February 1st, 2025 is indeed a Saturday. I recommend filing your weekly claim as you normally would (for the week of Sunday, January 26 through Saturday, February 1). The internal date system is probably just displaying incorrectly in the notification, but the actual claim period should be correct when you file.

wow, thanks for explaining! I was super confused by this too. ESD really needs to get their act together with these system issues. Seems like there's always something weird happening with their messaging.

Yeah I noticed that error too. It's frustrating because even though I know better, these kinds of mistakes make me second-guess everything. Like if they can't get simple dates right, what else might be wrong in their system? I've been on UI for 4 months now and have seen so many glitches in the ESD system that nothing surprises me anymore. Last month they somehow duplicated one of my weekly claims and then flagged me for an overpayment! Took 3 weeks to sort out.

I had a similar issue last month with incorrect dates in their notifications. I ended up calling ESD to make sure everything was okay with my claim. Took me FOREVER to get through though - spent almost 3 hours on hold before I gave up. If you're worried about this affecting your claim, I recommend using Claimyr to get through to an ESD agent quickly. I found their service at claimyr.com and they got me connected to an actual ESD rep in about 15 minutes when I needed to verify some info. You can see how it works in their video: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 But honestly, in this case I think it's just a display error like the other commenter said. The system probably knows the correct week even if the notification text is wrong.

Thanks for the tip about Claimyr! I might try that if I run into any actual payment issues. For now I'll try filing normally and see what happens. The ESD hold times are absolutely ridiculous.

Yep got the same message and wondered about it. But I just went ahead and filed like normal and got my payment on time so I wouldn't worry too much. The ESD system isn't exactly known for its flawless design lol. I think it's just displaying the end date of the week instead of the start date in the message, but the actual claim week is correct in their system.

That's reassuring to hear! I'll go ahead and file normally. You're right about their system design... it seems like there's always something quirky going on.

Has anyone noticed other weird glitches with the ESD system lately? Last week when I was doing my job search activities, the website kept freezing when I tried to save my entries. And then when I logged back in, sometimes my previously entered job searches were missing! I've started keeping screenshots of everything just to be safe.

YES!! This happens to me all the time! The job search page is SO glitchy. I've started writing down all my job search stuff on paper first just in case the system deletes it. Super annoying.

Just to follow up on this - I checked with a friend who works at WorkSource, and they confirmed this is just a display error in some of the automated messages. The actual claim week dates in the system are correct (Sunday through Saturday). If you're filing for the week ending February 1st, 2025, you should submit your claim as usual. The internal date tracking is accurate even if the notification wording is wrong. For anyone encountering other system glitches like the job search log issues mentioned: always take screenshots, note down the time/date of the error, and if it's preventing you from completing required activities, document your attempts. This will help if you need to appeal any issues later.

Thank you so much for checking on this and providing the update! I filed my claim this morning and everything seemed normal in the actual filing process. The dates displayed correctly once I was in the filing system. Definitely keeping screenshots of everything going forward though!

When I first started on unemployment last year I got so confused about when weeks begin and end! I remember submitting for the wrong week and having to call and sort it all out. Such a pain! But yeah, this is definitely just an error in their messaging. The actual claim period should be correct when you go to file.

The whole system is just needlessly complicated. Why can't they just say "file for January 26-February 1" instead of "the week beginning/ending on" language? Would make it so much clearer for everyone.
