ESD system says I have weekly claim to file after 26 weeks exhausted - what's going on?
I'm confused and hoping someone can explain what's happening with my ESD account. I've used up all my regular UI benefits (the full 26 weeks) but when I logged into my eServices account yesterday, it's telling me I have a weekly claim to file! Is this a glitch in the system or could I actually qualify for some kind of extension? My benefit year hasn't ended yet. I'm worried about filing something I shouldn't and then getting hit with an overpayment notice later. Has anyone else seen this happen after exhausting benefits?

DO NOT FILE IT!!! The ESD system does this sometimes and it's a TRAP! I filed one of these "phantom claims" after my benefits ran out and ended up with a $2,400 overpayment that I'm STILL fighting. Their automated system is completely broken and then they blame YOU for their mistakes.

It could actually be legitimate. Check if you qualify for any of these scenarios: 1. Extended Benefits (EB) - sometimes available during high unemployment periods 2. Training Benefits (TB) - if you're in an approved training program 3. A new claim quarter has started and you have new wages that qualify you 4. Your original determination was incorrect and was adjusted Before filing, I recommend calling ESD directly to confirm what's happening with your specific claim.

I had almost this exact situation last year. It turned out I qualified for a different type of claim after my regular UI ran out. Something about combined wage claim because I had worked in 2 states. Def worth checking into!

If you need to reach ESD by phone, good luck with that! After trying for two weeks straight and getting hung up on repeatedly, I found this service called Claimyr that got me through to an ESD agent in about 40 minutes. It basically keeps dialing for you until it gets through. Saved me days of frustration. This is most likely related to your benefit year. Even after you exhaust your 26 weeks of benefits, your benefit year continues until its end date (typically one year from when you first filed). The system automatically prompts weekly claims during your benefit year even if you don't have benefits remaining. Two important things to know: 1. If you have no benefits remaining, filing the weekly claim won't result in payment 2. However, filing these claims can keep your claim active if additional benefits become available For example, if the state activates Extended Benefits during high unemployment, having continued to file weekly claims might make it easier to transition to those benefits. You should be able to see your remaining benefit balance in your eServices account. If it shows $0, then filing won't result in payment.

the esd website is so confusing i swear they make it complicated on purpose lol. i had to file claims for like 2 months after my benefits ran out just to stay in their system for some reason

Just to follow up on what I wrote earlier - it's important to understand that there's a difference between your: 1. Benefit year (the 12-month period your claim is valid) 2. Maximum benefits amount (the total money you can receive during that year) 3. Weekly benefit amount (what you get each week) You can exhaust your maximum benefits (26 weeks worth) before your benefit year ends. The system often continues to allow weekly claims filing throughout your benefit year even with a $0 balance. This is actually by design, not a glitch. If you're worried about creating problems, calling ESD to confirm is the safest approach.

•Yes! Finally got through to ESD yesterday. The agent confirmed exactly what some folks here suggested - my benefit year is still active but my regular UI benefits are exhausted. The system allows claims during the benefit year even with $0 remaining. The surprising part was they said I might qualify for a small amount of additional benefits based on my part-time work during my claim period. They're reviewing that now.
