ESD adjudication delay + reporting 1099-MISC income on unemployment claim - need advice!
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my unemployment claim. I got a letter from ESD asking me to call about my claim, but I'm not sure how to handle it. I've got some 1099-MISC income from part-time work after losing my main job, and I don't know how to report it. Plus, my claim's been stuck in adjudication forever, and I'm running out of options. The job market here is dead thanks to some recent economic stuff. Anyone been through this before or have any advice?

Ugh, dealing with ESD is such a pain. I've been there, buddy. For the 1099-MISC income, you gotta report it as self-employment or freelance work. Make sure you have all your docs ready when you call them. Good luck!

•Thanks for the tip! Do you know if I need to calculate my expenses against the income or just report the gross?

•I think you report the gross, but don't quote me on that. ESD's website might have more info. Anyone else know for sure? 🤔

•You definitely wanna report the net income after expenses. Keep those receipts! 💯

The adjudication process is a nightmare rn. I've been waiting for months! Have you tried reaching out to your local rep? Sometimes they can light a fire under ESD's a**.

Hey, I found a way to actually get through to a real person at ESD! There's this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that calls for you, waits on hold, and then connects you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it saved me hours of frustration. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit or some kind of scam?

•Nah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it worked like a charm. Saved me from pulling my hair out lol

•How does it work exactly? Do they give you a specific time to be ready for the call?

•Yeah, they text you updates and give you a heads up when you're next in line. Then they connect you directly to the agent. Super smooth process.

Listen up, OP. Here's what you need to do: 1. Gather all your docs: 1099-MISC, any correspondence from ESD, proof of job search efforts. 2. Calculate your net income from the 1099 work (gross minus expenses). 3. Prepare a clear, concise explanation of your situation. 4. Call ESD first thing in the morning - their lines are less busy then. 5. Be patient but persistent. If one agent can't help, politely ask to speak with a supervisor. 6. Keep a log of all your calls and who you spoke with. 7. If you still can't get through, consider contacting your state representative or using a service like Claimyr as a last resort. Remember, you're not alone in this. The system is overwhelmed, but stay persistent. You've got this! 💪

I'm in the same boat, OP. The DOGE actions really screwed things up here too. Feels like we're all just treading water while ESD takes their sweet time. Hang in there!

•Oh boy, you must've been living under a rock! The whole Dogecoin fiasco in March? Crashed a bunch of local businesses that were heavily invested. It's been a mess.

Pro tip: When you finally get through to ESD, ask them to put a note on your account about the 1099 income. It might help speed things up if you have to call again. Also, don't forget to keep claiming weeks even if you're in adjudication!

•Conspiracy theory: ESD is actually run by a bunch of sloths. Explains the speed of service! 🦥

Hey OP, have you considered reaching out to a local non-profit that helps with unemployment issues? They might have some insider knowledge or connections to help speed things up.

•That's a great idea! Do you know of any specific organizations in our area?

•Check out WorkSource or your local United Way. They often have resources or can point you in the right direction. Good luck!
