One thing to watch out for - make sure your employer doesn't report the severance incorrectly to Washington ESD. Mine reported it as regular wages which caused problems with my claim.
Thanks for this thread everyone. I feel much more confident about filing my claim now. Going to do it today instead of waiting for my severance to end.
Whatever you do, don't lie or hide anything on your application. Washington ESD crosschecks everything and if they find discrepancies later, you'll have to pay back benefits plus penalties. It's not worth the risk.
The whole process is frustrating but hang in there. Once you get through the initial claim and any adjudication, the weekly claims are pretty straightforward. Just answer the questions honestly and submit by the deadline.
Patience helps, but don't be afraid to be persistent if you need to talk to someone. Services like Claimyr can save you hours of trying to get through on the phone when you really need help.
Remember that even if you qualify, you still have to meet the ongoing requirements like job searching and filing weekly claims. The work requirement is just to get approved initially.
For anyone still struggling to get through to ESD, that Claimyr service really does work. I was able to get my adjudication issue resolved after weeks of trying to call directly. Sometimes you just need to talk to an actual person.
Just remember that qualifying is only the first step. You still need to meet ongoing requirements like job searching and filing weekly claims. The system is designed to help people who are genuinely looking for work, not just taking a break.

Just don't get too comfortable on unemployment. The state wants you off the rolls as fast as possible and they'll make it increasingly difficult as time goes on. 26 weeks sounds like a lot but it's really not in today's job market.

•More scrutiny of your job search, random requests for documentation, eligibility reviews. They have ways of pressuring people to take any job.

•While ESD does have ongoing eligibility requirements, most claimants who consistently follow the rules don't experience increased scrutiny over time.

Thanks everyone for all the detailed information! I feel much more confident now about understanding my benefits and what I need to do. 26 weeks gives me a good timeframe to work with for my job search.

•And remember about Claimyr if you need to reach ESD for anything - much easier than trying to call yourself!
