Washington ESD also requires you to register with WorkSource and actively search for work while collecting benefits. Just something to keep in mind if you ever need to file.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread! Really comprehensive information that I'm sure will help lots of people understand UI eligibility better.
Definitely! And remember, if you ever need to actually speak with Washington ESD about your specific situation, Claimyr can help you get through to them without the usual phone tree nightmare.
You've got this! It seems overwhelming at first but thousands of people go through this process every week. The Washington ESD website has good instructions and there are resources available if you get stuck.
The Washington ESD phone system is set up to handle initial applications, weekly claims, and pretty much everything you can do online. Don't let anyone tell you that you HAVE to use the website. Some situations are actually better handled over the phone, especially when you have questions about how to answer certain sections.
That's reassuring. I do have several questions about how to report my work history correctly, so talking to someone might be the better option anyway.
Whatever method you choose, make sure you keep records of everything. If you file by phone, ask for a confirmation number or reference number for your application. Write down the date, time, and name of the agent you spoke with. This stuff can be important later if there are any issues with your claim.
One more thing about the Claimyr service that was mentioned - I ended up using them too when I had an adjudication issue on my second claim. Really saved me a lot of hassle trying to get answers from Washington ESD directly. Sometimes paying a little to talk to someone who knows the system is worth it.
sounds like you've got good advice here. the key thing is just don't overthink it - if you're unemployed and meet the requirements, file the claim. there's no penalty for applying multiple times

Bottom line - you're unemployed now and eligible for benefits now. Future employment doesn't change your current situation. Just keep meeting all the weekly requirements until you actually start working.
