I tried calling Washington ESD multiple times last month to ask about my eligibility after being terminated. Kept getting busy signals or would wait on hold for 2+ hours just to get disconnected. Finally used Claimyr to get through and was able to speak with someone in about 10 minutes. Definitely worth it if you need to talk to an actual person at ESD.
I'm in the same boat trying to reach ESD. How much does Claimyr cost?
The bottom line is that most people who get fired for performance reasons qualify for unemployment. It's really only the serious misconduct cases that get denied. Don't let your employer scare you into thinking you can't file - let Washington ESD make that determination.
For what it's worth, I found work at week 18 of my claim last year. Those 26 weeks gave me enough runway to be selective about opportunities instead of taking the first thing that came along.
Also remember that if you move out of state, you can still collect Washington UI benefits for the remainder of your claim as long as you continue to meet the requirements.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful info! This thread has been way more useful than the official ESD website.
One last thing - if your benefit amount seems low, you might want to call ESD to verify they have all your wage information correct. Sometimes employers don't report everything properly.
Definitely worth double-checking! And if you need to reach ESD by phone, that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier really does work. Made the difference between spending all day calling vs actually talking to someone.
Last tip - if you start working again even part-time, you still need to report it on your weekly claim. Washington ESD will adjust your benefits accordingly but you might still qualify for partial benefits.
Good luck with your claim! The first time is always the most confusing but once you get through the initial setup, the weekly claims become routine. Washington ESD's system has its problems but it does work if you follow the rules.
We've all been there. Don't hesitate to ask questions if you get stuck - and remember Claimyr is there if you need to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD.

One last tip from someone who's been through this multiple times - start your job search immediately even while waiting for benefits to kick in. The job search requirements are real and they do check up on people. Plus the sooner you find work, the better for your finances obviously.

•Absolutely. I'm already updating my resume and LinkedIn profile just in case. Better to be prepared than scrambling later.

•Smart approach. The job market is pretty competitive right now so giving yourself extra time is definitely wise.

Yeah and if you run into problems reaching ESD when you need help, definitely check out that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. I was skeptical at first but it actually worked great when I needed to resolve an issue with my weekly claim certification.

•I bookmarked their website just in case. Hopefully I won't need it but good to have as a backup option.

•Exactly. Better to know about it ahead of time than discover it when you're already frustrated and desperate.
