One more thing - if your severance includes stock options or other equity, that might be treated differently than cash severance. Worth asking Washington ESD about if that applies to you.
Yeah, complex severance packages definitely warrant a call to Washington ESD to get official guidance. That's another situation where Claimyr helped me avoid confusion.
Since you're new to this, also remember that unemployment is taxable income. You can choose to have taxes withheld or pay them later. Just something to keep in mind.
Final advice: be patient but proactive. Check your account daily, respond to any requests immediately, keep filing weekly claims, and if you haven't heard anything after 4 weeks, definitely try to reach out to Washington ESD directly. Most claims do get approved eventually, it just takes time to work through the system.

One more thing - make sure you understand how your part-time earnings will affect your weekly benefit amount. There's a formula they use and you'll still get some benefits as long as your earnings are below a certain threshold. Don't assume you won't qualify just because you're still working some hours.

•Nope, that's exactly what partial unemployment is for! It's designed to help people whose hours have been reduced.

•Awesome, thanks everyone for all the helpful advice. I'm going to apply this week and see what happens.

Smart move applying sooner rather than later. The worst thing that can happen is they say you don't qualify, but at least you'll know for sure rather than wondering. And if you do qualify, you'll start getting benefits right away instead of missing out on weeks of payments.

•Exactly my thinking. Better to try and find out than assume I don't qualify and miss out.
