Bottom line - unless you're working for a very small nonprofit or certain religious organizations, you're probably covered by Washington ESD. Most 501c3 organizations participate in unemployment insurance.
If you're still worried about it, you could also check with Washington ESD directly once you've been working there a bit. They can tell you if your employer is in their system.
That's exactly why I mentioned Claimyr earlier - it actually gets you through to talk to a real person at Washington ESD
Just wanted to say thanks for all the helpful info in this thread! I'm definitely going to file for partial benefits now that I know it's an option. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences.
I used Claimyr when I couldn't get through to check on my adjudication status and they connected me right away. Definitely recommend if you need to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD instead of just checking your account online.
good luck with your claim! remember that even if you get denied initially, you can always appeal the decision. don't give up if the first answer isn't what you want to hear
Just one final tip - once you do get approved and start receiving benefits, don't spend all your time just applying for jobs online. Try to mix in some in-person networking, job fairs, that kind of thing. It looks better for your job search log and you might actually find opportunities that aren't posted online.
Last piece of advice - start looking for work immediately even if you're not required to yet. The job market is tough and unemployment benefits don't last forever. Better to find something while you still have the safety net.
