The whole system is designed to push people off benefits as quickly as possible. 26 weeks sounds like a lot but it goes by fast when jobs are scarce.
Bottom line - you get 26 weeks of benefits within your benefit year. If you're at week 20, you have 6 weeks left unless there's an extended benefit period (which there isn't currently). Use that time wisely to intensify your job search.
For anyone curious about exact numbers, I found the Washington ESD benefit calculator online. You can estimate your weekly amount based on your previous earnings. Pretty helpful tool.
The high benefits are great but remember you still have to pay federal taxes on unemployment income. Don't forget to set aside money for tax season!
The whole unemployment system is such a pain but you really have nothing to lose by filing. Even if you only get benefits for a few weeks while you find another job, that's better than nothing. And if you don't file, you definitely won't get anything.
Just wanted to add that if you do end up needing to contact Washington ESD for any reason during your claim process, that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier really does work. I used it when I had questions about my job search requirements and it saved me hours of frustration. Sometimes you just need to talk to a real person to get things sorted out.
For anyone still struggling to get through to Washington ESD, I can't recommend Claimyr enough. I've used it three times now and always got the answers I needed. Sometimes you just need to talk to a real person to understand what's happening with your claim.

Pro tip: if you're setting up a payment plan, make sure you get the agreement in writing. I had issues later when they claimed my payment amount was different than what we discussed over the phone.

•Great advice, I'll make sure to ask for written confirmation of any payment plan terms.

•Yes, always get payment plan agreements documented. Washington ESD should send you a written confirmation within a week of setting it up.

One more plug for using Claimyr if you need to call Washington ESD about this - I've recommended it to several people dealing with overpayments and everyone has had success getting through to the right department. The overpayment unit is actually pretty helpful once you reach them, it's just getting through that's the challenge.
