Just called at 8 AM sharp and got through in 30 minutes! Thanks for the tips everyone. Having all your info ready definitely helps speed things up once you get connected.
This thread convinced me to try Claimyr and it worked perfectly. Got connected to Washington ESD in about 20 minutes and resolved my issue. Worth every penny to avoid the phone hell.
Just want to add that if you worked in multiple states, that can affect your eligibility too. You might need to file in the state where you worked most recently or earned the most wages. Washington has agreements with other states for combined wage claims.
Based on what you described, it sounds like you should qualify. The retail job wages should meet the requirements if you worked consistently for 8 months. Just make sure you have all your documentation ready when you file - pay stubs, layoff notice, etc.
The bottom line is that most people who worked regularly and were laid off through no fault of their own will qualify. The Washington ESD website has a pre-screening tool that can give you a better idea based on your specific situation. But honestly, if you think you might qualify it's worth applying even if you're not 100% sure.
Thanks everyone! This has been super helpful. I'm going to apply this week since it sounds like I should qualify.
Good luck! Just be prepared for potential delays in processing. I had to use Claimyr twice during my claim period just to get status updates when things got stuck in adjudication. The service was worth it to avoid the phone runaround.
Make sure you apply as soon as possible after becoming unemployed. There's no waiting period in Washington but you can't get benefits for weeks before you actually file your claim. So don't delay if you think you qualify!
Just wanted to add that if you worked in multiple states, you might need to file an interstate claim. Washington ESD can help determine if this applies to your situation.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful information! I feel much more confident about filing my claim now. Going to get started on the Washington ESD website this afternoon.
Good luck with your claim! Remember to file your weekly claims on time and keep up with the job search requirements.
If you run into any issues getting through to Washington ESD, definitely check out that Claimyr service. It saved me so much frustration.

If you do end up needing to contact Washington ESD about your claim determination, Claimyr really helped me get through when I couldn't reach anyone by phone. Sometimes you need to talk to a real person to explain your situation properly, especially for misconduct determinations.

Just want to echo what others have said - apply for benefits regardless. Washington ESD has to investigate and make a fair determination. Don't let your former employer scare you out of applying for benefits you might be entitled to.
