Make sure you understand the job search requirements once you start receiving benefits. You'll need to log your job search activities and be able and available for work each week.
UPDATE: I just got approved! Filed my claim 5 weeks ago after being terminated and finally got the good news today. Don't give up hope everyone!
One last tip - screenshot or print your confirmation page after filing. I've had issues before where the system didn't save my application properly and having that confirmation helped when I called.
Love seeing these success stories! The unemployment system seems scary but once you understand the rules it's actually pretty manageable. Good luck to everyone filing new claims!
Thanks everyone for all the info! Sounds like I should definitely file. Based on what people are saying I should expect somewhere around $750-850 per week which would definitely help while I'm job hunting.
One last thing - if you're not sure about your benefit amount or have questions during the process, don't hesitate to get help. Whether it's calling Washington ESD directly or using something like Claimyr to reach them, getting accurate information early saves a lot of headaches later.
Last tip - sign up for direct deposit when you file your claim. It's much faster than waiting for a debit card to arrive in the mail. You can get your benefits 1-2 days sooner with direct deposit.
One more thing about Claimyr - I used it last month when my claim got stuck in adjudication and I needed to speak with someone urgently. The regular phone system was completely useless, but through Claimyr I was able to get through to an actual Washington ESD representative who explained exactly what was holding up my claim. Definitely worth checking out if you can't get through the normal way.

I'm in a similar situation but with discrimination issues. Thinking about using that claimyr service to talk to Washington ESD about it before deciding on a lawyer. Thanks for posting this question, the responses are really helpful!

•Good luck with your case! Discrimination might be more complex than mine though.

Final thought - whatever you decide, make sure you meet all the deadlines. Washington ESD is strict about appeal timeframes and you don't want to miss your chance because you were still deciding about a lawyer.
