Washington ESD unemployment benefits questions - need help understanding my claim
Hi everyone, I'm really confused about my Washington ESD unemployment claim and have several questions. I filed 3 weeks ago but haven't received any payments yet. My claim shows as 'active' on the ESD website but when I file my weekly claims it just says 'processed' with no payment amount. I've been doing my job searches and logging them but I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. Also got a letter about something called 'standby' status but I don't understand what that means. Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm getting really stressed about my bills and don't know who to call or what steps to take next.

The 'processed' status usually means your weekly claim went through but there might be an issue preventing payment. Check if there's any 'adjudication' flag on your account - that would explain the delay. Standby status is different from regular unemployment and has specific requirements.

•How do I check for adjudication issues? I don't see anything obvious on my dashboard.

•Look under the 'Claim Status' section - sometimes it's not immediately obvious. You might need to scroll down or check different tabs.

•How did you finally reach them? I've tried calling but keep getting busy signals.

•honestly I used this service called Claimyr that helped me get through. they have a website at claimyr.com and there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. saved me hours of calling

For job search requirements, you need to log 3 job search activities per week in WorkSourceWA. Make sure you're documenting everything properly - employer name, contact method, date, and position applied for. The system is pretty strict about this.

•I've been doing 3 searches but maybe I'm not logging them correctly. Should I be doing more than the minimum?

•Stick to the requirement but make sure each entry is complete. Missing details can flag your claim for review.

•wait i thought it was 2 searches per week not 3?? when did that change

STANDBY STATUS IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT FROM REGULAR UI!!! You don't do job searches on standby - you're supposed to be available to return to your specific employer. If you're on standby but doing job searches, that could be causing confusion in your claim.

•Oh no, I've been doing job searches thinking I had to! Should I stop filing them?

•You need to clarify your status with Washington ESD immediately. Being on the wrong benefit type can mess up your whole claim.

Check if you have any 'identity verification' requirements pending. Sometimes they need additional documents before they can release payments, even if your claim shows active.

•Where would I see that? I uploaded my ID when I first applied.

•Look in your 'Messages' or 'Documents' section. Sometimes they request additional verification that's easy to miss.

•I keep trying but their phone system is impossible!

•Try calling right at 8am when they open, that's usually the best time to get through

Your weekly claims showing 'processed' but no payment amount suggests there's a hold on your account. This could be for several reasons - wrong benefit type (like the standby confusion others mentioned), missing documents, or an adjudication issue that needs review.

•How long do holds usually last? I'm getting really worried about making rent.

•Depends on the issue. Simple document requests can be resolved quickly, but adjudication can take weeks. You really need to speak with someone to understand what specific hold is on your account.

I had a similar situation and it turned out I was accidentally filed under regular UI when I should have been on standby. Took 3 weeks to sort out but they backdated all my payments once it was fixed.

•That gives me hope! How did you get it corrected?

•Had to speak with an adjudicator to review my case. They looked at my separation reason and employer info to determine the right benefit type.

•Thanks, it really is overwhelming when you're already dealing with job loss.

Update on the job search requirement - it is indeed 3 activities per week for most claimants. Some people might be on different requirements based on their situation, but 3 is standard for regular UI claims.

The standby vs regular UI issue is super important. If your employer expects you back and filed you as standby, but you're treating it like regular unemployment, that's probably why your payments are held up. Washington ESD is strict about this distinction.

•My employer did say they might call me back when business picks up. Does that automatically make it standby?
0 coins
Tate Jensen
•Not automatically, but it's a factor. The key is whether there's a specific return date and whether you're expected to refuse other work to stay available for them.

Just wanted to follow up on that Claimyr thing I mentioned - it really did help me get through to Washington ESD when I was stuck. Might be worth trying if you keep having trouble with the phone lines.

•how much does something like that cost? seems like we shouldn't have to pay to reach our own state agency

•I hear you on that frustration, but honestly it was worth it to get my issue resolved quickly instead of spending weeks trying to get through

Make sure you're checking your ESD account every few days for new messages or document requests. Sometimes they send correspondence that doesn't trigger email notifications.

•I'll start checking more frequently. I only log in to file my weekly claims usually.

If you do need to appeal anything or if this drags on, document everything - dates you called, times you tried to reach them, screenshots of your claim status. It helps if you need to escalate later.

Destiny Bryant
•Good advice, I should start keeping better records of all this.

•Yeah, the system can be frustrating but having documentation helps if you need to file complaints or appeals down the line.

The fact that your claim shows 'active' is actually a good sign - it means you're approved for benefits, there's just something preventing payment. Much better than having a denied or pending claim.

•That's reassuring at least! I was worried they might have rejected my claim.

OP, based on everything you've described, it really sounds like you need to speak with someone at Washington ESD to clarify your benefit type and resolve whatever's holding up your payments. Don't let this drag on for weeks.

•You're right, I need to be more persistent about reaching them. Thanks everyone for all the helpful advice!

Final thought - if you do end up needing to use something like Claimyr to get through, just make sure you have all your questions ready. When you finally reach someone, you want to make the most of that call.

Destiny Bryant
•Great point, I'll write down all my questions beforehand so I don't forget anything important.

•Yeah definitely be prepared. These calls can make or break getting your benefits flowing again.
