Remember you have to do your weekly claims too once you file. Don't let that slip or you could lose benefits even if your employer isn't affected.
I was worried about the same thing when I filed. Turns out I qualified for $612 per week which was way more than I thought. The application process was actually pretty straightforward once I understood what information they needed.
Pro tip: if you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD about your benefit calculation or any other questions, I had success with Claimyr. They connected me right to an agent who could see my account and walk through the math with me. Made the whole process way less stressful.
Hope this all works out for you OP. The unemployment system isn't perfect but if you follow the rules and timing, it usually works eventually.
Been following this thread and wanted to add that if you do run into issues reaching Washington ESD, that Claimyr service people mentioned really does work. Used it last month when I had questions about my claim status and got connected right away.
This whole thread has been super educational. I had no idea you could still get benefits with an outstanding overpayment. Bookmarking this for future reference!

Just remember that unemployment is temporary. Use the time to really think about what kind of job you want next and maybe pick up some new skills. The benefit amount should help cover your basics while you search.

•Good point. I've been thinking about this as an opportunity to maybe switch career paths.

•Exactly! Washington also has some good workforce development programs if you want to learn new skills while collecting benefits.

One last thing - keep track of all your benefit payments for tax purposes. Washington ESD will send you a 1099-G at the end of the year but it's good to have your own records too.
