Remember that Washington ESD has to prove misconduct on your part if they want to deny benefits for quitting. If you quit due to employer actions that would cause a reasonable person to quit, that's usually considered good cause.
Final update from my experience - I used claimyr.com again last month when I had issues with my card being declined at multiple places. Turned out Washington ESD had flagged my account for some reason and I needed to talk to someone to clear it up. The service worked great for getting through to an actual person who could help.
This whole thread has been amazing! I was dreading dealing with the unemployment card but it sounds way more manageable than I thought. Going to activate mine tomorrow and set up the online account. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences!
The eligibility requirements seem straightforward when you break them down like this, but Washington ESD's website makes it sound so much more complicated. Why can't they just explain things in plain English?
I used that Claimyr thing someone mentioned and it actually worked great. Got connected to a Washington ESD agent in about 30 minutes when I had been trying to call for days. The agent was able to explain my specific eligibility situation and help me understand what documents I needed. Sometimes talking to a real person is so much better than trying to figure everything out online.
The monetary eligibility is just one part - you also have to meet the non-monetary requirements like being separated through no fault of your own and being able and available for work.
Don't stress too much about it right now. If the layoffs do happen, you can always call Washington ESD or use their online resources to verify your eligibility when you actually need to file. Cross that bridge when you come to it.

Just remember that receiving unemployment isn't something to be ashamed of - you paid into the system while you were working, so you've earned these benefits if you need them.

•That's a good point. I guess I was thinking of it as charity, but you're right that it's something I've been paying into.

•Exactly! It's insurance that you've been paying for. Use it if you need it.

The Washington ESD website has a lot of good information too, but sometimes it's hard to find what you're looking for. The eligibility requirements are all spelled out there if you want to read the official details.
