Last update from me - if anyone does end up needing to contact Washington ESD urgently, that Claimyr service I mentioned has been consistently helpful. Used it three times now and always got through to someone who could answer my questions. Worth checking out their demo if you're on the fence about it.
Final update - got my determination letter yesterday! Claim approved, benefits start next week. Thanks everyone for the advice and encouragement. This thread really helped me not panic while waiting. For anyone else in the same boat, just be patient and it will work out.
Pro tip for anyone still trying the regular way: use speakerphone and do other things while you wait. Don't just sit there listening to hold music for hours, you'll go crazy.
Good advice! Though at this point I think I'm going to try the Claimyr route.
For anyone reading this thread later - the main takeaway seems to be: try calling right at 8am, use Claimyr if you can't get through, and have all your info ready. Hope this helps someone else avoid the frustration we've all been through!
Anyone know if there are any bills in the legislature to extend benefits or create emergency programs? Seems like 26 weeks isn't enough in this economy.
Final update from me - I submitted my new claim application and it was approved! I get another 26 weeks of benefits while I continue job searching. The part-time work I did really saved me. Thanks everyone for the advice and support.
Just wanted to follow up on the Claimyr suggestion - I checked their website again and they have updated info about Washington ESD's current programs. Really helped me understand what options are actually available right now versus what might become available later.
The bottom line is that long-term unemployment in Washington means you need to start diversifying your approach. Don't just rely on UI benefits - explore training programs, part-time work, gig economy, and other support services. The safety net gets thinner the longer you're out of work.

Just wanted to follow up on the WorkSource suggestion - I went to the one downtown and they have computers you can use plus staff who can answer questions about the ESD website. They don't file for you but they can help troubleshoot if you get stuck.

•Thanks for the update! I'll check out both the library and WorkSource options.

•WorkSource also has job search resources which you'll need for your weekly claims anyway.

Remember that even if you get help filing your initial claim, you'll still need to file weekly claims online every week. Make sure you're comfortable with the eServices system before you start receiving benefits.

•Good point. I should probably practice navigating the website even if I get help with the initial filing.

•The weekly claims are actually much easier than the initial filing. Just a few questions each week about your job search and any work you did.
