I used Claimyr when I needed to check on my appeal status and couldn't get through the regular phone lines. Really helpful service for getting connected to actual humans at Washington ESD.
UPDATE: I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who helped. I filed my appeal yesterday and included all the documentation you suggested. Feeling more confident about my chances now!
Jeremiah 29:11 - 'For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.' God has plans for your career that are better than what you can imagine. This season of unemployment is part of that plan.
One last thought - Hebrews 13:5 says God will never leave you or forsake you. Even when Washington ESD takes forever to process claims and employers don't call back, God is still with you. He sees your efforts and your heart. Don't let anyone make you feel less than because you're receiving unemployment benefits.
been getting unemployment for 2 months now and the weekly filing becomes routine pretty quick. just remember to file every week even if you worked some hours, you just report what you earned
One last thing - if you have any issues with your claim or need to speak with someone at Washington ESD, I'd definitely recommend checking out Claimyr. I was skeptical at first but it actually worked great for getting through to an agent when I had questions about my benefit amount calculation.
The key thing about unemployment insurance is that it's temporary and conditional. You're not just getting free money - you have ongoing obligations like filing weekly claims, conducting job searches, and being available for work. Washington ESD monitors compliance pretty strictly.
Bottom line - unemployment insurance is earned income replacement for people who lose jobs through no fault of their own. In Washington, ESD administers it but the federal government sets some of the rules. You pay into it while working, then can draw from it when unemployed and actively job searching.

Just remember that part-time work can affect your weekly benefit amount too. If you work while collecting UI, they reduce your benefit based on how much you earn that week.

•How much can you earn before it affects your benefits? I might need to do some freelance work while I'm looking for a full-time job.

•I think you can earn up to about $200 per week without any reduction, then they start reducing your benefit dollar for dollar after that. But you should double-check the current amounts.

The benefit amount calculation seems straightforward enough, but actually getting approved and receiving payments is where things get complicated. My advice is to file as soon as you're eligible and be prepared for potential delays.

•Thanks for all the info everyone. I think I have enough information now to estimate my benefits and decide whether to file.

•Good luck with your claim! And remember, if you need to contact Washington ESD for any reason, that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier can really help you get through to an actual person instead of spending hours on hold.
