Quick question - if my claim gets denied initially, do I still have to serve a waiting week when I appeal and eventually get approved?
The waiting week is frustrating but honestly it's better than some states that have longer waiting periods. Just wish Washington ESD was more transparent about timeline expectations.
Final reminder about the math: if your calculation gives you less than $295, you'll get $295 (the minimum). If it's over $999, you'll get $999 (the maximum). Most people fall somewhere in between. With your work history it sounds like you'll be fine.
I used Claimyr too when I couldn't get through to Washington ESD about my benefit calculation. They got me connected within a few hours and the agent was able to give me the exact amount before I filed. Definitely worth it if you want to know for sure before starting the process.
Yeah the video demo I watched at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ explained it pretty well. Much easier than trying to navigate the phone system yourself.
If anyone's desperate to reach Washington ESD and can't wait until Tuesday, you could try reaching out through their social media or email, though response times are usually pretty slow for those channels.
I tried using Claimyr that people keep mentioning and it actually worked great. Got through to Washington ESD in under 30 minutes when I normally would have been on hold for hours. Definitely recommend it if you need to talk to someone urgently.
It's worth checking their website at claimyr.com for details. For me the time savings made it worthwhile.
For what it's worth, my unemployment covered about 60% of what I was making before. It's not enough to live comfortably but it keeps you afloat while job hunting. The key is to file your weekly claims on time and keep looking for work.
Just to clarify for anyone reading this later - the exact formula for 2025 is: (Highest quarter wages ÷ 26) × 0.0385 + $34 = weekly benefit amount. But remember there's a minimum of $304 and maximum of $999 per week. Plus dependent allowances if you qualify.

The most important thing is to file your claim as soon as possible after you lose your job. Benefits don't start until you file, so don't wait even if you're not sure about the calculation.

•Good luck! The hardest part is usually just getting started with the process.

One last thing - keep detailed records of your job search activities from day one. Washington ESD requires you to search for work and document it properly. It's easier to stay organized from the beginning than to try to recreate your search history later.

•Good advice! I'll start a spreadsheet to track my applications and interviews.

•That's smart. I used Claimyr again when I had questions about the job search requirements - they really helped me understand what documentation Washington ESD was looking for.
