Bottom line is plan for 26 weeks max and don't count on extensions. Use the time wisely to not just apply for jobs but also network and maybe learn new skills. The clock is ticking from day one.
If anyone's having trouble getting specific answers about their claim duration, I had success using Claimyr recently. They got me connected to an actual Washington ESD rep who could look up my exact benefit weeks remaining.
One last tip - keep detailed records of everything related to your unemployment claim. Dates, amounts, conversations with Washington ESD, etc. You never know when you might need that information.
The 26 weeks goes by faster than you think, especially if you're being picky about jobs (which you should be to some extent). Start applying aggressively from day one rather than taking a few weeks to 'decompress' from your layoff.
Final thought - keep all your documentation organized from day one. Benefit statements, job search logs, correspondence with ESD, everything. If any issues come up during your claim period, having good records makes resolution much easier.
This is so important. When I had to use Claimyr to get through to ESD about my adjudication issue, having all my documentation ready made the call much more productive.
One more tip - make sure Washington ESD has all your employers from your base period. Sometimes they miss employers and you have to provide additional wage information to get the correct calculation.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful info! This thread has been way more useful than the Washington ESD website for understanding how the calculation works.

One more thing about benefit amounts - if you were in the military or worked for the federal government, those wages might be handled differently. Make sure to mention any federal employment when you file your claim.

•I haven't worked for the government, but that's good to know for others reading this thread.

The whole system is confusing but once you get your first payment you'll see exactly how much you're getting. Just be patient with the process - took about 2 weeks for my first payment after filing.

•Good luck with your claim! The waiting is the hardest part but the benefits do help while you're job searching.
