USCIS I-130: Stuck in limbo for 5 months, no status change. Need advice!

I've been waiting for 5 months to adjust my status from immigrant to citizen for my I-130 case, but nothing has changed. USCIS keeps telling me to wait another 30 days. My English isn't great, so I have trouble understanding everything they say on the phone. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice on how to speed up the process or get clearer information?

I found a way to solve I-130 citizenship status delays, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uahyrkmmt2I

Ugh, I feel your pain! I've been stuck in the same boat for almost a year now. USCIS is notorious for these delays. Have you tried submitting an inquiry through their online system? Sometimes that can help move things along.

Thanks for the suggestion! I haven't tried the online inquiry yet. Do you know where exactly I can find that on their website?

Sure thing! Go to the USCIS website, look for 'Tools' in the menu, then click on 'Case Status Online'. From there, you should see an option to submit an inquiry. Good luck! 🍀

Online inquiries are hit or miss tbh. I did one and got a generic response after 2 months 🙄

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/eSz742AOvHc

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

I was skeptical at first too, but it really worked for me. Saved me hours of hold time!

$20 just to talk to someone? The system is so broken 😤

I get it, but for me, it was worth it to finally get some answers. Time is money, ya know?

Pro tip: If you're having trouble understanding them on the phone, ask if they can email you a summary of the call. Most agents are willing to do this, and it helps a lot if English isn't your first language.

Have you considered reaching out to your local congressperson's office? They often have liaisons who can inquire about immigration cases. It's free and sometimes speeds things up!

I didn't know that was an option! How do I find my local congressperson?

Just google 'Find my representative' and enter your zip code. Their website should have info on how to request help with federal agencies like USCIS.

USCIS IS A JOKE! 🤡 I've been waiting for TWO YEARS on my case. The whole system needs an overhaul. Good luck, OP, you're gonna need it.

Preach! 🙌 It's like they're stuck in the stone age or something

Here's what I've learned from my experience and research on I-130 processing: 1. Processing times vary wildly depending on your specific case and which service center is handling it. 2. If your case is outside normal processing times, you can submit a case inquiry. 3. Make sure all your documents are in order and up to date. 4. Consider expedite requests if you meet the criteria (financial loss, emergency, etc.) 5. Keep your address updated with USCIS at all times. 6. Check for RFEs (Request for Evidence) regularly, as missing these can delay your case. 7. If all else fails, consider reaching out to the USCIS Ombudsman. Hang in there, OP. The process is frustrating, but it will eventually move forward!

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed info! This is really helpful. I'll definitely look into the expedite request option.

This should be pinned tbh. Great advice! 💯

lol welcome to the wonderful world of US immigration 🎢 where everything's made up and the processing times don't matter

🤣🤣🤣 so true it hurts

Have you tried checking your case status online? Sometimes there are updates there that they don't tell you about on the phone.

Unpopular opinion: maybe we should all just chill and be patient? The immigration system is overwhelmed, and getting angry won't make it go faster. 🤷‍♂️

Easy for you to say! Some of us have been separated from our families for YEARS because of these delays. It's not just about patience.

I get that, and I'm sorry if I came off as insensitive. I just meant that stress doesn't help. But you're right, the delays are really tough on families.

I'm going through something similar with my I-130 case. One thing that helped me was calling early in the morning (around 8 AM EST) when the phone lines open - I usually get through faster then. Also, if you have trouble with English on the phone, you can request a translator during the call. They're required to provide one for free. Don't give up! I know it's frustrating but keep advocating for yourself. Have you tried checking if your case is within normal processing times on their website? That can give you a better idea of whether an inquiry is worth submitting.
