Social Security IRMAA appeal form (SSA-44) faxed - no confirmation on my SS account?

Unfortunately, IRMAA appeals (SSA-44 forms) often don't show up in the MySocialSecurity portal. The IRMAA processing happens in a separate system that doesn't always communicate with the online account interface. In my experience, you should expect 4-6 weeks for processing, but you won't see updates online. The best way to confirm receipt is to call SSA directly at 1-800-772-1213 and ask them to check their imaging system for your faxed form.

I know this doesn't help now, but in the future always send important documents to SSA via certified mail with return receipt! I never trust faxes for anything important anymore after they lost my earnings correction request THREE TIMES. At least with certified mail you have proof they received it. Also keep copies of EVERYTHING.

wait i'm confused... is IRMAA the same thing as the Medicare surcharge?? I thought that was from Medicare not Social Security??? Why are you even dealing with SSA for this??

Update on IRMAA processing times - I just spoke with an SSA representative yesterday about my mother's IRMAA appeal, and they said current processing times are actually running closer to 8-10 weeks due to staffing shortages. The acknowledgment letters are also delayed. The rep suggested that if you haven't heard anything after 3 weeks, you should call to confirm receipt, but expect longer overall processing time.

My neighbor had this SAME PROBLEM last year!!! The SSA claimed they NEVER GOT her fax even though she had a confirmation page!!! She had to resubmit everything and it took FOUR MONTHS to resolve!!! The system is COMPLETELY BROKEN!!!

I faxed mine in October and just got the approval letter last week. Never showed up on my online account. Just be patient, they're working on it even if you can't see it.
