EDD hasn't received my appeal after a month - what now?

I filed an appeal for my claim effective date about a month ago and still haven't heard anything back. I finally got through to an agent on the phone, but they said they haven't received my appeal or documentation. I sent everything in on April 4th. It's so frustrating that there's no way to email them directly. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on what to do next?

Ugh, I feel your pain. The EDD is a nightmare to deal with. Have you tried sending your documents via certified mail? That way you have proof they received it.

That's a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. I'll definitely try certified mail. Thanks!

Certified mail is the way to go. I learned that the hard way after my first claim got 'lost' 🙄

I've been in the same boat. It took them 3 months to even look at my appeal. Keep calling and bugging them, squeaky wheel gets the grease and all that jazz.

Pro tip: I found a way to actually get someone on the phone without waiting for hours. There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials through the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it saved me so much time and frustration. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Totally legit! I was skeptical at first too, but it really worked for me. Saved me hours of hold time.

I get it, times are tough. But for me, it was worth it to finally get some answers. Plus, time is money, right?

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They can sometimes help push things through with EDD.

I didn't know that was an option. How do I find my assembly member?

Just google '[your city] assembly member' and it should pop up. Most have forms on their websites for constituent services. Good luck!

The whole system is broken af. I've been waiting on my appeal for 6 months now. SIX. MONTHS. 🤬 They keep saying 'it's in process' but I'm about to lose my mind (and my apartment

6 months?! That's insane. Have you tried contacting your state rep?

Yeah, they 'opened an inquiry' but that was weeks ago and still crickets 🦗

Here's what I did to finally get my appeal processed: 1. Send everything via certified mail AND fax (yes, they still use fax 🙄) 2. Call every week for a status update 3. Keep a detailed log of every interaction (date, time, agent name) 4. If no progress after a month, contact your assembly member 5. As a last resort, file a complaint with the state ombudsman It's a pain, but persistence is key. Don't let them forget about you!

Wow, thank you for the detailed advice! I'll definitely start keeping better records of my calls.

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes they update stuff there without actually contacting you.

I check it obsessively, but no updates there either 😕

Not to be that guy, but are you SURE you sent it to the right address? I made that mistake and lost weeks because of it.

Pretty sure, but now you've got me paranoid. Gonna double-check everything!

I'm going through something similar right now - sent my appeal documents three weeks ago and when I finally got through to someone, they had no record of it. What's really frustrating is that there's no tracking system or even a simple confirmation that they received your paperwork. I ended up having to resend everything via certified mail like others suggested. Also keeping copies of EVERYTHING now because this seems to be a common issue. The whole process feels like throwing documents into a black hole and hoping for the best 😤

The "black hole" description is so accurate! 😭 I'm dealing with the exact same thing - it's like they have a special department dedicated to losing paperwork. At least I'm not alone in this mess. Did you get any kind of receipt or confirmation when you sent it certified mail? I'm definitely doing that next time.
