EDD Claim Denied, Appeal Filed Months Ago, No Payments Since February - Help!
Hey everyone, I'm in a tough spot. My unemployment claim was denied, so I filed an appeal through the mail like they told me to. It's been months now and I haven't heard anything back. The worst part is, I haven't received any payments since February. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on what I should do next? I'm getting really worried about my finances.

Ugh, I'm so sorry you're going through this. The system is such a mess right now. Have you tried calling them? Sometimes that's the only way to get any real answers.

•I've tried calling so many times, but I can never get through. It's always busy or I'm on hold forever. 😫

•Same here. I swear they must have like 2 people working the phones for the entire state 🙄

•Yeah, it's ridiculous. I once stayed on hold for 6 hours and still didn't get through. The whole system is a joke.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

•Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

•It did for me! I was skeptical too, but I was desperate. Got through in about 2 hours.

•I get it, but for me it was worth it to finally get some answers. Beats wasting hours on hold yourself.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Keep a record of all your attempts to contact them (calls, emails, letters). 2. Reach out to your local state representative or senator. They often have staff dedicated to helping with unemployment issues. 3. Check if there's a way to check your appeal status online. Some states have this option. 4. If you haven't already, file for a hardship advance. Some states offer this while appeals are pending. 5. Look into local food banks and assistance programs. They might be able to help while you wait. 6. Consider contacting legal aid. They might be able to help speed up your appeal. Hang in there. The system is overwhelmed, but keep pushing. You'll get through this!

•Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely try reaching out to my state rep. Didn't even think of that.

•This is great info. Wish I had known some of this when I was going through my appeal. Especially the hardship advance part.

Have you checked your spam folder? Sometimes important emails from EDD end up there. Also, make sure your address is up to date in their system. I've heard of people missing important mail because of outdated info.

•Good point! I'll double check both of those. Thanks for the tip.

This is why we need to overhaul the entire unemployment system. It's clearly not designed to handle crises or even normal fluctuations in the job market. We're all suffering because of outdated technology and understaffed agencies. 🤬

•Preach! 🙌 The whole thing needs to be rebuilt from the ground up.

•Totally agree. But good luck getting politicians to care about fixing it until the next crisis hits 🙄

Hey OP, just wondering - did you receive any kind of confirmation when you mailed in your appeal? Might be worth following up if you didn't.

•No, I didn't get any confirmation. That's part of why I'm so worried. I'll try to follow up somehow. Thanks for bringing that up!
