EDD Appeal Filed 4 Weeks Ago - No Response. What Now?
I filed an appeal for my claim effective date about a month ago and still haven't heard anything back. Has anyone else experienced this? It's been radio silence and I'm starting to get worried. Any advice on what to do next or how long I should expect to wait?

Ugh, welcome to the club. I filed my appeal 6 weeks ago and crickets. The EDD is a black hole for communication. Have you tried calling them? That might be your best bet at this point.

•I've tried calling but can never get through. It's so frustrating! How many times did you have to call before you got someone on the line?

•Honestly, I lost count. It took me days of constant redialing. I feel your pain, the whole system is a joke 🤡

•Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through on my third try doing that. Good luck!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I waited 3 months for a response to my appeal. The backlog is insane rn. Hang in there!

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member? They can sometimes help speed things up with EDD. Worth a shot!

•I didn't even know that was an option! How do I find out who my assembly member is?

•Just Google '[your city] assembly member'. They usually have a form on their website for constituent services. Explain your situation and they might be able to help!

•Can confirm this works! My assembly member's office got my issue resolved in 2 weeks after I'd been waiting for months. Definitely give it a try, OP!

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Here's what I've learned from dealing with EDD appeals: 1. Document everything. Keep a log of all your attempts to contact them. 2. Be persistent. Call regularly, even if you can't get through. 3. Use multiple channels. Try phone, email, and even snail mail. 4. Know your rights. Read up on the appeal process so you know what to expect. 5. Consider legal aid. There are organizations that offer free help with EDD issues. 6. Stay patient. The system is overwhelmed, but they will get to your case eventually. Hang in there, OP. It's a frustrating process, but don't give up!

•Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely start keeping better records. Do you have any recommendations for legal aid organizations?

•Check out Legal Aid at Work or your local Bar Association. They often have resources or can point you in the right direction. Good luck!

•Come on, they're doing their best with limited resources. Cut them some slack.

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes they update info there without sending a notification. Worth a look!

I'm in a similar boat - filed my appeal 5 weeks ago and nothing. One thing that helped me get some peace of mind was requesting a copy of my appeal file through a FOIA request. At least then you know they actually received it and have it in their system. You can do this online through their website. It doesn't speed up the process, but it's something concrete you can do while you wait. Also, keep calling - I know it's frustrating but squeaky wheel gets the grease with EDD.

•That's a really smart idea about the FOIA request! I didn't know you could do that. Thanks for the tip - at least it would give me some confirmation that they actually have my paperwork. How long did it take to get the copy back?
