TWC phone lines suddenly jammed again - can't get through like during Covid
Is anyone else having trouble getting through to TWC on the phone again? I've been trying for 3 days straight at different times (6:58am, 12:30pm, 4:45pm) and it's ALWAYS busy. Just keeps saying 'all representatives are busy' before disconnecting me. I haven't had this problem since the height of Covid when everyone was applying at once. I just need clarification on why my payment amount changed this week - not super urgent but still important for my budget planning. Has TWC reduced their staff? Did something happen to cause a surge in calls? Any tips on actually reaching a human being? This is getting ridiculous!

•A whole week? Ugh, that's even worse than my experience. Have you tried the online message system? I sent one but haven't heard back yet.

They're definitely short-staffed right now. My neighbor works for TWC and she said they lost like 30% of their call center people last month due to budget cuts. Plus I heard there was a big layoff in the oil industry so more people filing claims than usual. Double whammy! The system is so broken, I swear they make it hard on purpose so people give up.

•Thanks for the insider info! That explains a lot. I'll try Tuesday morning like the other commenter suggested. Seems like terrible timing for budget cuts with layoffs happening...

I've been helping several clients navigate TWC recently, and yes, the phone lines are exceptionally busy right now. If your question is about a payment amount change, here are a few common reasons this might happen: 1. If you reported earnings during a payment request period 2. If you're transitioning from regular benefits to Extended Benefits 3. If there was an adjustment to your base period wages 4. If you've reached a tier reduction in your benefit amount You can check your payment statement details in your TWC account under "Claim and Payment Status" which might explain the change without needing to call.

•Thanks for the suggestions! I checked the portal and it doesn't really explain the change - just shows my payment dropped from $463 to $311 with a code "ADJ-22" next to it. No idea what that means and nothing in the correspondence section explains it.

I had the exact same problem last week trying to sort out an identity verification issue with TWC. After 3 days of failed attempts, I tried using Claimyr (claimyr.com) and actually got through to a TWC agent in about 20 minutes. They have this system that holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is available. Saved me hours of frustration and redial attempts. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh The TWC rep I spoke with confirmed they're dealing with higher call volumes due to some recent layoffs in tech and manufacturing, plus they're short-staffed themselves.

•does it cost $$? seems sketchy to have to PAY to talk to TWC when its a govt service we should be able to access for free

•Yeah, there is a fee, but for me it was worth not spending hours redialing every day for a week. It's just an option if you're desperate to talk to someone. I had an urgent issue with my benefits being on hold so I couldn't wait.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I might try that if I can't get through using the Tuesday morning tip. My question isn't super urgent but I do need to know if this payment reduction is permanent or just a one-time thing for budget planning.

ADJ-22 is an adjustment code that usually means there was an income reporting adjustment. Did you report any earnings on your last payment request? Even small amounts can reduce your weekly benefit amount significantly. Also, check if you have any correspondence in your inbox about benefit amount recalculations. As for getting through on the phones, I've found that calling exactly at 7:01am (not 7:00 when everyone calls) sometimes works. Also, Wednesdays seem to be slightly less busy than Mondays and Tuesdays in my experience.

•That's super helpful, thank you! I did pick up a small gig job last week and reported $175 in earnings. I didn't realize it would reduce my benefit by over $150 though - that seems like a huge reduction. I'll try calling at 7:01am tomorrow!

So i had this EXACT problem last month when i needed to fix a work search issue. called for DAYS and couldnt get thru. ended up driving to my local workforce center in person (the one on Westheimer if ur in Houston) and they have TWC staff there who helped me right away. no appointment needed just walked in. might be worth checking if theres one near u?

•That's a great idea! I'm in the Dallas area so I'll check if there's a workforce center nearby. Might be faster than fighting with the phone system.

Just to follow up on that earnings reduction - Texas uses a formula where they deduct approximately 75-80% of your reported earnings from your weekly benefit amount. So if you reported $175, they'd reduce your benefit by around $131-140, which matches what you experienced. This is normal and should only affect the week where you reported earnings. Your next payment request should go back to the full amount if you don't report additional earnings.

•THANK YOU! This is exactly what I needed to know. So if I understand correctly, next payment should go back to normal as long as I don't pick up any more side jobs? That's a huge relief - I can handle one reduced payment but was worried this was permanent.

Correct! The reduction only applies to weeks where you report earnings. Each payment request is calculated independently, so your benefit amount will return to normal for weeks where you don't report income. Just make sure you continue to meet your work search requirements (minimum 3 activities per week) for each payment request.

•Thank you so much! This forum has been more helpful than days of trying to reach TWC. I'll still try to get through on the phone to confirm, but this gives me peace of mind.
