Starting new job Tuesday - How to properly report or stop TWC payment requests?

So guys I start working Tuesday who do I report to or do I just stop requesting payments ? Idk what to do. This is my first time on unemployment so I'm confused about the process when you find a job. Do I need to call TWC and tell them? Or just report the earnings when I request payment next time? What if I forget to do something and get in trouble for fraud? Really need advice before Tuesday!

Congrats on the new job! When I found work last year, I just reported my earnings on my next payment request and answered 'yes' to the question about returning to work. Make sure you report ALL your earnings for the week, even if you haven't been paid yet. The TWC system will automatically adjust your benefits or stop them if you're earning too much. Don't just stop requesting without telling them or they might think you're avoiding work search requirements.

Thank you!! So I need to keep requesting payments? Even after I start the job? That's the part I'm most confused about

just report ur earnings when u request payment. if u make more than ur weekly benefit amount + $30 u wont get anything anyway. congrats on the job btw

Thanks! So even if I won't get anything, I should still go through the request process?

You definitely need to keep requesting payments until you've reported your return to work! Don't just stop requesting or TWC might flag your account. When you do your payment request, you'll answer YES to the question asking if you've returned to work full-time, and provide your start date. The system will then close your claim automatically. If you just stop requesting without properly reporting, you could potentially have issues if you ever need unemployment again in the future. It's also important to report any partial week you worked - even if it's just one day before your payment request.

Ok this makes sense! So I report on my normal request day even though I'll have started working by then. That's what was confusing me!

I did this ALL WRONG when I got hired in February! I just stopped requesting payments and didn't tell anyone at TWC. Then 3 months later I got a letter saying I needed to report why I stopped claiming!!! Had to call them and fix it. DONT BE LIKE ME!!!! Make sure you do the payment request and tell them you're working!!!!

Oh no! I'm glad you got it sorted out! It's a really common mistake people make. The TWC system isn't very intuitive about this process, which is frustrating. Just for anyone else reading this in the future - you should always keep requesting payments until the system tells you that you're no longer eligible (which happens automatically when you report returning to work).

When you do your payment request after starting work, you'll need to report the exact date you started working and your employer information. The system will ask you specific questions during the request process - just answer honestly and you'll be fine. It might seem scary but it's actually pretty simple! I've been through this process twice now, and as long as you don't try to claim benefits for weeks you're working full-time, there's no problem. The TWC system is designed to handle people finding jobs - that's the goal of unemployment after all!

When I started my new job last month I had such a hard time getting through to TWC to make sure I was doing things right. Kept getting busy signals for days! I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to a rep in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh. The agent walked me through exactly what I needed to do for my payment request when reporting my new job. Totally worth it for the peace of mind!

oh thats cool never heard of that. TWC phones are the WORST

Thanks for the tip! If I run into any issues with my final payment request I might try that. Hate being stuck on hold forever

I notice some confusion in the replies, so let me clarify the official process: 1. Continue requesting payments on your regular schedule 2. When you do your first payment request after starting work, answer YES to the question about returning to work 3. Provide your start date and employer information when prompted 4. Report all earnings for any days worked (even if not paid yet) 5. The TWC system will automatically determine if you're eligible for partial benefits 6. Your claim will be automatically closed if you report full-time work If your payment request period includes days before and after your start date, you may receive partial benefits for the days before you started working. The system calculates this automatically based on the information you provide. Congratulations on your new job!

Thank you so much for laying it out step by step! This is exactly what I needed. Will definitely do my payment request and report everything properly.

Just make sure you report your work and earnings during your next scheduled payment request. It's really that simple. The system will guide you through the rest of the process. Congrats on the new job!

Good luck with your new job! I went through this same situation a few months ago and was just as confused. The key thing is to keep doing your payment requests until the system officially closes your claim. When you do your next payment request (even if it's after you've started working), just be honest about your start date and any earnings. The TWC system is actually pretty good at handling this transition - it's designed for people to find jobs! Don't stress too much about it, just follow the prompts and you'll be fine.

Thanks for the encouragement! It's really reassuring to hear from someone who went through the same thing. I was definitely overthinking it and getting myself worried for nothing. You're right, the system is designed for this exact situation. I feel much better about just following the process now!

Congratulations on landing the new job! I went through this exact same situation last year and totally understand the confusion. Here's what worked for me: keep doing your regular payment requests as scheduled, and when you do your next one after starting work, just honestly report your start date and any earnings from that week. The system will ask you directly if you've returned to work - answer yes and provide the details. Don't worry about fraud issues if you're being honest about everything. The TWC system is actually designed to handle this transition smoothly. The main thing is NOT to just stop requesting payments without properly reporting your return to work, as that can cause issues down the line. You've got this!

This is such great advice! I was getting really anxious about potentially messing something up, but hearing from people who've actually been through this process is so helpful. The part about NOT just stopping payment requests without reporting is really important - I almost did that thinking it was the right thing to do. Thanks for taking the time to explain the process so clearly!

Hey Kaitlyn! Congrats on the new job! I just went through this exact same process a couple weeks ago and was super confused too. Here's what I learned: definitely keep doing your payment requests on your normal schedule. When you do your next request after starting work Tuesday, the system will ask if you returned to work - just answer honestly with your start date and any earnings for that week (even if you haven't been paid yet). The system automatically handles everything from there. Whatever you do, DON'T just stop requesting without reporting your job - that's what causes problems! The whole process is actually designed for people finding work, so don't stress about fraud issues as long as you're being honest. You've got this!

Thank you so much Samantha! This is exactly what I needed to hear. I was definitely overthinking it and getting myself all worked up about potentially doing something wrong. It's so reassuring to know that the system is actually designed for this exact situation. I feel much more confident now about just following the normal process and being honest about everything. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience!

Congrats on the new job! I was in the exact same boat a few months ago and totally understand the confusion. Here's what you need to do: keep requesting payments on your normal schedule, and when you do your next payment request after starting Tuesday, just answer all the questions honestly. The system will specifically ask if you've returned to work - say yes and provide your start date and any earnings for that week. Don't worry about fraud as long as you're being truthful! The TWC system will automatically adjust or close your claim based on what you report. The biggest mistake people make is just stopping requests without properly reporting their return to work, so definitely avoid that. You're doing the right thing by asking these questions ahead of time!

Thank you Grace! This thread has been so incredibly helpful. I was really stressing out about this whole process but everyone's advice has made it so much clearer. I definitely won't make the mistake of just stopping my payment requests - seems like that's the main thing that gets people in trouble. I feel so much better knowing that being honest and following the normal process is all I need to do. Really appreciate everyone taking the time to help out a newbie like me!

Congrats on the new job! I went through this exact same situation about 6 months ago and was just as confused. Here's what you need to do: continue with your regular payment request schedule, and when you do your next request after starting Tuesday, the system will ask if you've returned to work - just answer yes and provide your start date and employer info. Report any earnings from days you worked that week, even if you haven't received your first paycheck yet. The TWC system will automatically determine if you get partial benefits or if your claim should be closed. The most important thing is DON'T just stop requesting payments without going through this process - that's what causes issues later on. As long as you're honest about everything, you won't have any fraud problems. The system is literally designed for people finding jobs, so don't stress too much about it!
