TWC payment request timing issue - will my waiting week overlap with new job start date?

I'm really confused about my TWC payment request timing. I finally got a job (starting next week Monday), but my regular payment request date is on the 28th. I'm going to request my waiting week on Monday, but I'm not sure if I'll get paid for this current week too? Do I report that I've found work on Monday's request even though I haven't actually started working yet? I don't want to mess anything up or have to repay benefits later.

when u start working youll report it on the payment request after you actually start. if u havnt started working yet, then you havent worked yet, simple as that. but make sure u report ur earnings for the weeks u actually do work.

Thanks! So for my Monday request I should just say I didn't work since I technically haven't started the new job yet? And then on my next request in 2 weeks, I'd report that I worked?

Here's how this works: When you request payment, TWC is asking about work and earnings for the previous two weeks, not future work. You only report work you've actually performed and wages you've earned during those specific weeks. For your waiting week request on Monday (the 28th), you'll be certifying for the two weeks prior. Since you haven't started the new job yet during those weeks, you would answer that you did not work. On your next request after you've started working, you'll report your work and earnings for any days within that certification period. Remember that in Texas, you can still receive partial benefits if your earnings are less than your weekly benefit amount plus 25%.

Thank you for explaining! I was overthinking this. So the request on Monday is actually for the past two weeks, not the upcoming ones. That makes sense now.

One important thing to remember - when you do start reporting work on future payment requests, make sure you report your GROSS earnings (before taxes/deductions) for the week you actually worked, even if you haven't been paid yet by your employer. TWC cares about when you earned the money, not when you received your paycheck. This is a common mistake that can lead to overpayment issues later.

THIS!!! I messed this up when I started my job last year and ended up with a $1,400 overpayment bill because I reported when I got paid instead of when I worked. Took me 3 months to get it straightened out with TWC and it was a NIGHTMARE!!!!

So what's this waiting week everyone talks about? I just applied for benefits and am confused about the whole process...do I have to wait a week before getting paid?

The waiting week is the first week of your claim that you're eligible for benefits. By Texas law, TWC doesn't pay you for this week until after you've received 3 times your weekly benefit amount AND either returned to full-time work or exhausted your benefits. Think of it like a deductible on insurance - you get the money eventually, but not right away.

If you're having trouble getting clear answers about your specific situation, I'd recommend calling TWC directly. I was stuck in a similar situation last month and spent days trying to get through. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to a TWC agent within 20 minutes who cleared everything up for me. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh that explains how it works. Saved me so much frustration compared to constantly getting busy signals.

The WHOLE TWC system is designed to confuse people!!!! I bet they INTENTIONALLY make the questions vague so people will answer wrong and then they can deny benefits and save money!!! I had to appeal TWICE because of their stupid unclear questions about work searches and availability. The system is BROKEN!!!!

While the questions can be confusing, I don't think it's intentionally designed to trick people. The system is handling millions of claims with varying situations. If you're ever unsure about how to answer a question, you can always call to get clarification before submitting your payment request. It's better to delay your request by a day to get accurate information than to rush through and potentially create problems later.
