Can I file my weekly PA UC claim after my BYE date this Saturday?

Panicking a bit here... My benefit year end (BYE) date is this Saturday, April 13th. I'm confused about whether I'll still be able to file my weekly claim on Sunday the 14th for this past week? Will the system even let me file after my BYE date? I really need this last payment to cover my rent next month. Has anyone gone through this before? What happens at the BYE date exactly? Do I need to file a whole new application first before I can claim for this final week?

Yes, you can file on Sunday for the week ending on your BYE date. The system lets you file for any week that was within your benefit year, even if you're filing after the BYE date. Just make sure you file on time (by Friday the 19th). After that, if you still need benefits, you'll have to file a new application to establish a new benefit year.

Thank you so much! That's a huge relief. So I don't need to do anything special with this final claim? Just file as normal on Sunday?

DON'T WAIT UNTIL FRIDAY!!! File as early as possible on Sunday. The system gets super glitchy around BYE dates and sometimes throws random errors. If you wait until the last day and then have problems, you might not get it resolved in time. And make sure you screenshot EVERYTHING as proof you filed on time in case something goes wrong!!!

Oh gosh, I didn't even think about system errors. I'll definitely file first thing Sunday morning and take screenshots. Thanks for the warning!

To add some clarity here: the Benefit Year End date (BYE) marks the end of your 52-week benefit period, but you're absolutely entitled to file for that final week. The PA UC system is programmed to accept claims for any week within your benefit year, even if you're filing after your BYE date has passed. After filing this final claim, if you need to continue receiving benefits, you'll need to file a new application. Keep in mind that to qualify for a new benefit year, you'll need to have earned qualifying wages during your base period (typically the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters). If you encounter any issues with the online system, you might need to speak with a representative directly. The PA UC phone lines are notoriously difficult to get through, especially at the beginning of each quarter when many BYEs occur.

Thank you for such a detailed explanation! I've been working part-time, so I think I should have enough wages to qualify for a new claim if needed. I'm just worried about a gap in payments if I have to file a new application.

If you do need to call them about any issues, I highly recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was in the exact same situation last month and couldn't get through on the phone for days. Claimyr got me connected to a PA UC agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 The agent told me that filing for that last week is totally fine even after the BYE date, but there can sometimes be system flags that need to be manually cleared. Better to have a way to reach them just in case.

Does this Claimyr thing actually work? I've been trying to get through to UC for 2 weeks about an issue with my new claim and it's impossible. Always busy signals or it hangs up on me automatically.

Yeah it worked for me! Instead of spending days redialing, I got through in under half an hour. The UC rep I spoke with actually said a lot of people are using it now because the phone system is so overwhelmed.

This whole BYE date thing is so confusing! I thought my benefits just stopped completely on that date. The PA UC website really needs to explain this stuff better.

Agreed. The PA UC website could definitely use clearer explanations about the BYE process. They send that notice about your benefit year ending, but don't clearly explain you can still file for that final week.

Oh really? I've been keeping track of my work searches but haven't been super detailed with all the info. I'll make sure everything is properly documented. Thanks for the heads up!

My BYE date was in January and let me tell you about the headache I went through... Filed my last week no problem, but then my new application got stuck in review for 6 WEEKS because they said they needed to verify my identity again even though nothing had changed. Make sure you have all your ID documents ready if you need to file a new claim! They wanted my SS card, birth certificate, driver's license, AND a utility bill all over again.

THIS!!! The exact same thing happened to me! And they wouldn't tell me what was wrong until I finally got through on the phone. The ID verification system is COMPLETELY BROKEN. They make it nearly impossible to get benefits even when you qualify!

Just to follow up on this thread: the process for filing after your BYE date has actually improved recently. The PA UC system was updated in February 2025 to better handle these transition weeks. You should see a message when you log in acknowledging that you're filing for a week within your benefit year but after your BYE date. This is perfectly normal. Also, if you need to file a new application, there's now a streamlined process that carries over much of your information from your previous claim. It's still not perfect, but it's better than it was last year.

That's great to hear! I just filed my final week without any issues. The system did show exactly the message you mentioned. Thanks everyone for all your help and advice! I feel much better now knowing what to expect.
