this happened to my brother and he did end up having a hearing. the system just updated weird. dont trust the online status its almost never right. keep checking your mail and email everyday!!
UPDATE: I finally got through to someone at the appeals office! The representative confirmed they're reviewing my documentation before deciding if a hearing is needed. She said my employer didn't contest the appeal and my documentation was very clear, so they might just overturn the denial without a hearing. She said I should keep an eye on my mail for either a hearing notice or a decision letter in the next 7-10 days. Thank you all for your help and advice!
That's great news! If your employer isn't contesting it and you have clear documentation, there's a very good chance they'll rule in your favor without needing a hearing. This is actually the best-case scenario as it typically means a faster resolution. Keep us updated on the final outcome!
Fingers crossed for you! Sounds promising!!
anyone else think its weird they make us wait so long when they literally have our tax records already??? like why do we have to prove anything when the government already has all our w2 info??
EXACTLY!!! The left hand doesnt know what the right is doing. I had to send my w2 THREE TIMES even though they should already have it. Total incompetence.
UPDATE: I just went through my records and my wage protest actually took 31 days from submission to resolution. Here's the exact timeline if it helps: - Day 1: Submitted wage dispute with W-2 and paystubs - Day 14: Called to check status (on hold for 2+ hours) - Day 15: Got through to someone who said they were "still reviewing" - Day 22: Called again using Claimyr, rep escalated my case - Day 31: Received determination letter with corrected WBA - Day 33: Received all backpay So about a month total. The key was getting someone to escalate it after the initial review period passed.
anybody know if we have to report the severance pay on taxes seperate from the uc benefits? my company laid me off in november and i got 3 weeks severance plus started uc
Yes, severance pay is reported separately from UC benefits. Your employer should provide a W-2 that includes your severance pay. The 1099-G from PA UC will only show your unemployment benefits. Make sure you report both when filing your taxes.
UPDATE: My 1099-G just appeared today (Jan 26th)! For anyone still waiting, definitely check your account. Looks like they are indeed releasing them in batches before the 31st deadline.
Still nothing for me... of course I'm always the last one to get these things 🙄
Not to confuse things but don't u need to look for full time work while ur on UC anyway? So u should probably be applying for jobs regardless. The 1099 might help u in meantime. Just report any $ u make each week. That's what I do with my side gig.
You're right - I am still applying for jobs every week and documenting my work search activities. The 1099 work would definitely help with income while I'm looking. I'm just paranoid about anything that might mess up that new claim in June since I really might need it.
I think you have enough information now to make a decision. Based on what you've shared about your work history: 1. You have sufficient W-2 earnings in your base period (Jan-Dec 2024) 2. You were laid off from W-2 employment in February 2025 3. The 1099 work is flexible and you can still search for full-time work Taking the 1099 position shouldn't negatively impact your ability to file a new claim in June. Just make sure you: - Report all earnings accurately each week - Continue your work search activities and documentation - Keep records of everything related to both your W-2 layoff and 1099 work - When filing your new claim, clearly indicate you're filing based on your February 2025 W-2 job separation If you run into problems with the new claim, request a determination interview where you can explain your situation in detail.
Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I think I'm going to accept the 1099 position and make sure I document EVERYTHING carefully. I'll definitely make it clear when filing my new claim that it's based on that February W-2 layoff. This makes me feel much more confident about moving forward.

Wait so if PA took money from ur benefits to pay Virginia why are u even dealing with this? Isnt this PAs problem to fix since they took ur money?

•Unfortunately not. PA is just acting as a collection agent for Virginia in this case. They deduct and transfer the funds, but it's Virginia's responsibility to properly credit those payments. This happens because each state has sovereign authority over their own UI program, and there's no federal oversight of interstate payment reconciliation.

•After trying for two more days with no luck, I ended up requesting a formal payment reconciliation as suggested above. Still waiting to hear back. I'll update here if I get it resolved!
