What time does unemployment hit your account - NYS Department of Labor payment timing?

Does anyone know what time unemployment benefits actually get deposited? I've been checking my bank account all morning and nothing yet. My payment history on my.ny.gov shows it was released yesterday but still no deposit. Is there a specific time when NYS Department of Labor payments usually hit accounts? This is my third week and I'm still figuring out the timing.

mine usually hits around 2-3am on tuesday morning, but it can vary depending on your bank

Good to know! I have Chase so maybe it takes longer. I'll check again tonight.

NYS Department of Labor releases payments on Monday evenings, but your bank's processing time determines when you actually see the money. Most people get it Tuesday morning between midnight and 6am. Some banks like Wells Fargo and Bank of America are faster, others like smaller credit unions might take until Wednesday morning.

Wait, I thought they released payments on Tuesdays? I've been filing my weekly claims on Sunday night and expecting payment Tuesday...

No, if you file by Sunday 11:59pm, NYS Department of Labor processes it Monday and releases payment Monday evening. The confusion comes from when your bank actually shows the deposit.

If you're not seeing your payment by Wednesday morning, there might be an issue with your claim that needs attention. Check your my.ny.gov account for any pending issues or messages from NYS Department of Labor. Sometimes they put a hold on payments for verification purposes.

Thanks for the heads up! My account doesn't show any issues, just says payment released. Hopefully it's just my bank being slow.

I had this same problem last month! Turned out my bank info got messed up somehow in the system. I couldn't get through on the phone for WEEKS to fix it. Finally used claimyr.com to get connected to an actual NYS Department of Labor agent who sorted it out in 10 minutes. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me so much frustration trying to call myself.

never heard of that service, does it actually work??

Yeah it worked for me. Way better than sitting on hold for hours just to get disconnected.

The WHOLE unemployment payment system is a joke! They make you jump through hoops every week just to get money that should be automatic. And then they can't even tell you when you'll actually get paid?? Ridiculous.

I feel you but at least we're getting something. Better than nothing during tough times.

I'm in the same boat as you Eloise! This is my first week getting unemployment and I've been refreshing my account every hour. From what I'm seeing here it sounds like Tuesday morning is the norm. I have TD Bank so fingers crossed it shows up overnight. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - really helpful for us newbies navigating this system!

Welcome to the unemployment club Dylan! I've been dealing with this system for about 6 months now and can confirm Tuesday morning is definitely the pattern. TD Bank is usually pretty good with direct deposits - you'll probably see it between 1-4am Tuesday. Pro tip: don't drive yourself crazy refreshing all day Monday like I used to do. The money will show up when it shows up! Good luck with everything.

I've been getting unemployment for about 8 months now and can share what I've learned about the timing. NYS Department of Labor typically releases payments Monday evening after processing your weekly certification (assuming you filed by Sunday night). The actual deposit time depends entirely on your bank - I have Capital One and usually see mine around 3am Tuesday morning. If it's showing as "released" in your my.ny.gov account, that's a good sign! Just be patient, it should hit your account within the next 12-24 hours. The waiting is definitely nerve-wracking when you're counting on that money.

This is super helpful Ava, thank you! I also have Capital One so hopefully I'll see the same timing as you. It's reassuring to hear from someone who's been through this process for a while. The waiting really is nerve-wracking - especially when you're relying on that money for rent and groceries. I'll try to be patient and check again in the morning!

I've been on unemployment for about 4 months and can confirm what others are saying - Tuesday morning is definitely the norm. I have Bank of America and mine usually hits between 2-5am on Tuesday. The key thing is that "payment released" status on my.ny.gov - once you see that, you're good to go, just waiting on your bank's processing time. One thing I learned the hard way is to make sure you're checking the right account if you have multiple accounts with your bank. I spent a whole day panicking thinking my payment was missing when it had actually gone to my savings account instead of checking! Also worth noting that holidays can delay things by a day, so keep that in mind around federal holidays.
